Yeah, I'm a strict SOB, I guess!

Last night I found my laser pointer (given to me by my Mom - I teach and have to give presentation at work), had went through the washer in my 10 year old son's jean's pocket. When I asked my wife what she had done about it, she said "I took it away from him!" I about exploded. I've told him at least 2 gazillion times about messing with other people's property and asking permission. My wife grew up in a home where they "talked" about stuff, and very little real punishment. I grew up getting my butt beat for everything I did wrong. And I think I turned out pretty well - engineering degree, never killed anyone, get along very well with my parents, etc.

The number one reason for failed marriages is $, but most of our fights are over raising our son. Don't get me wrong, we're no where near that, but it's still frustrating. He makes good grades and stays out of trouble, but, just because of that, it doesn't mean he shouldn't get punished when he does do something wrong.

In short, I agree with all of you. I'm tired of this BS, and I haven't had to deal with it to the extent that you guys have/do. It makes you wonder what this world is going to be like in another 10-20 years.

I'm no expert here, but my wife has studied enough nutrition and proved herself proficient enough to be certified in nutrition and health. Some of it rubbed off as she went through this.

Sugar is a huge cause of the chemical imbalance they try to mask with Ritalin. Refined sugar is not the only source (Soda, candy, etc. ) Too much simple sugar can do it too: bread, pasta, fruit, alcohol.

Awesome that you are telling them to shove their drugs. Try changing the diet. Tons of vegetables, raw and cooked. Small/medium amounts of high quality meat (lean red meat, chicken, fish). Legumes are good too. Small amounts of the sugar foods are OK, but try to get it through the bread/pasta and fruit sources vs. the junk food sources (hey, I take my Big Bacon Classic Combo with a Mt Dew now and again, I just don't tell the wife!).

I have 2 boys. 16 years old from first marrage and 13 years old that I legally adopted. I do not spank them nearly enough,but they do get a large switch worn out on their rear ends when needed. I try not to spank when i'm mad. I don't use my hand because it might dislocate the lower back,spinal injuries show up later. A belt will bruise. The switch will make them dance just right. My old saying is, it is easier to spank them now than it is to visit them in the penitentary later. Tim

The fella that said the thing about too much sugar and not enuff good nutrition in these kid's diets hit the nail on the head. These g#$*^n soda companies have everybody drinking soft drinks and telling people that dairy products are no good for you. I asked for a happy meal for my grandson and they charged me a $1. 00 more because I substituted milk for coke. These g#!&*$n do-gooders that recommend Ritalyn and this other crap are brainless, They should be tied up to a breeding rack and let a bull f#$* some brains into 'em! As far as some kid getting out of hand... a walk behind the woodshed and a talk always got the job done...

ADHD is one of the most over diagnosed problems with kids today. When I was in the second grade I was a little **** , but one of my teachers talked to my parents about it. When I was diagnosed with ADD i probably had 50 different tests done on me, today you just go to your local doctor tell him that your kid has discipline problems and they have ADHD. Kids with ADD are also extremely smart and grow out of it between 14 and 18 years old.
