With all the talk of bad batteries, gelling fuel and other problems (not sure who will provide the 1st gen spiritual guidance now :{ ), I just had to post a non tech subject as a warm fuzzy. Oo.

After my Honda died for the second time in two months making me catch a ride home I thought of how nice it was to know I could get home, and my 93 would be ready to take up the slack. :D

In fact I picked my car off the side of the road on the way into work this morning with the old girl, and when I got to the guard shack one of the guys asked about the car and offered to buy it as is on the trailer. Needless to say I will be dropping it at his place tomorrow, and driving the truck daily again.

I also get asked about my 66 Jeep when I drive my truck (guards remember me in it) but no one ever cares to remember the Honda driver has an old Jeep.

Sorry about the interuption, back to your regularly schedualed forum.

BTW I love my truck :D

Yeah Babe, 1st Generation!

I second that e-motion. I don't drive my rig as a daily driver these days, I do light-hauling on the weekends, or trips. Daily drive my bug to school. However, when any of my girls cars need care and feeding:-laf , we jump in the Ram, and shake, rattle, and roll the neighborhood:eek: :D

Patrick.

Mine's a daily driver. Even with the slightly lower compression (+. 020head gasket), it starts better in cold weather than my girlfriend's Dakota. RUns better too. Heat..... That's another story.

That's funny you drove to work towing your Honda and got it sold on the spot. :-laf

me too - love my truck. Great machines, and when asked to work hard it always does without griping. Great trucks - don't want/need a $700/month payment with these old dogs around. And they're fun to tinker with too - almost gives them a 'charm' of sorts.

I drive a first gen by choice, after spending time here reading and researching the others. The new trucks are nice. If that's your gig, great, but I love my first gen, peeling paint, rusted rockers, saging doors, and all.

My Dad got us started... now there are three in the family.

me personally i prefer the 2ng gen body with a first gen engine, you get reliability, ease of working on, and good looks. dont get me wrong i love the way 91-93 rams look especially extended cabs, but the 2nd gens 4x4's just look mean if done up right. :D

ok, now accepting hate mail. :-{} :-laf

Well I must say I originally wanted a second gen. That was my dream truck. But after I got my Dad's First gen after he got an 05 I wont go back to second gens. People say I should get a new truck. Because the older they get the more work you have to do on them. But I say if you keep them up and take good care of them they will go forever. And you don't see very many first gens around! I like having a truck that you don't see in every parking lot! I'm a thrid generation Dodge Diesel owner. My Grandpa (Bob Simerly) had a first gen for the longest time but got an 05. Thats when my dad up graded too. Thats when I got "The Beast" I call it that because it's a club cab long bed. Parking it is a pain. But I still love it! = )

I've cursed at mine, Threated to trade it in I even went out and bought a used Toyota 4x4 to show her I wasn't kidding. Every time I fix it and drive just 1 mile I feel so comfortable. I will not ever get rid of my first gen,I love it and it has treated me good over the years. Even if I spent $3000 in repairs a year(I don't),To me it's cheaper then a new truck.

back to the way it should be.

I dropped my old Honda with the new owner, he was as happy to get it as I was to get rid of it :D

I also thought about it and my wife and I made the decision that the truck will be my daily driver (60 miles daily). We looked at what we were willing to spend on a car for going to and from work and then at the fuel savings. It would take 8 years to pay off one of the cars we were looking at (10-15K). Oh well, more fuel for the Dodge to burn (and maint money too). I can't say it really hurts my feelings too much:-laf .

Now to spend the Honda sale money on the truck :D

Oldie but goodie

Got rid of my Ford Ranger Diesel (major toad of a truck) (they actually DID call it a truck... . ) when I ordered my '93 D250 LE Club Cab. SWEET!!!

I went Dodge just to get the Cummins, and glad I did. LOML tells me my truck 'fits me'. It is my daily driver, a pain in the keester to park (backing in is my method of choice), wakes ALL of the neighbors at 6:30 every morning, Hauls 2 pallets of concrete block in the bed without straining (well... not TOO much) when needed, gets 26/20 mpg... This truck will be with me for at LEAST another decade!

Melissa, post pics of your '93!

Ahhhhh

It is very encouraging to hear everyone praise their trucks, but I now have both trucks down. The D truck needs a new VE, and yesterday the W truck decided that it doesn't want to go into any gear, maybe I'll see if I can't take a look at it tomorrow.

However, when everything is workin' right, there is nothing that I would rather drive. :D

Everything mechanical breaks sooner or later. Just a bad break that both happened at once. Hope they're well soon.

My wife won't drive the truck (hooray!!) because she's short & things don't "feel right". So I get to drive it whenever/wherever I want without diddling with "her" minivan.

Still getting 19-21 mpg (if I go easy on the slim pedal). The to-do list is sort of long, though - mainly little electrical gremlins.

Regards, DBF

Your lucky. Any chance my mom has to drive my truck she takes! Even when we are going some where in my truck she has to drive!! I'm with richgod, I back into every parking spot I can! Any where I go. Its so much easier than trying to get out of a busy school parking lot if you can just pull out. Wow you guys are getting great gas milage! 18 is the highest I can go on daily driving. I got it up to 27 when I went to Vegas for May Madness last year. I was following my parents, who were pulling a trailer. We went never went over 65mph. I went down on only 1 tank of fuel! It was great! Hope I get the same this year!

Great thread guys(and gals).

I just bought a 01 over Christmas. It's nice, lots of room, looks great; but there's just something "right" about driving the 'ol first gen that's hard to explain. Ya'll know what I mean:D

Steven

My old girl gets driven DAILY! I have found there are two types of people in regard to the 1st Gens: 1) They think it is the butt ugliest, smelliest, god awful vehicle known to man or 2) They are envious, jealous and want to buy it:-laf There is no sweeter music then the sound of a nice old Cummins 12 valver;)

Paul

I had a 1 st gen in '91. I trader her in for a '95. More power and looked better, INHO. However, I've now owned a 91,95,99,03,05 (I still have the '99 and 05), but I recently bought a '93 and use it as my daily driver. The old 12 valves are just bullet proof, and the 727 derived transmission can be repaired anywhere.

She ain't fancy, but I know she'll always get me where I need to go and get 19-20 MPG doing it. I love her. The kids hate the suicide seats in the club cab, but oh we'll. They don't have to travel far in them.
