Ahhh, the good ole Cactus. It has taken quite a turn since I turned 21 a coulple of years ago, they did away with country night on Saturdays, so now it always packed, kinda like Harry's. I don't like crowded bars, so it sucks I can't get down and hang with The Piano Man... that was about the best way to spend a night ever!

Eric

When I was there every night was country night. Right before I turned 21 they opened the back doors and everyone entered there and called it the "Back Alley" on Tues or Thurs it was rock night. That didn't last very long.

Eric & Ryan, I went to Purdue in the 70's. I went to the Stabilizer a lot (they had real cheap beer back then). Is that place still around? KL

I have never heard of the Stabilizer. The oldest bar I remember was Nicks

No Stabilizer  and no Nicks. I think they tore down Nicks around my freshman year, 1999 or so. There is so much construction on campus and the Levy it is unreal.

What about Pete's? I worked there for a year, before they moved off the hill and down to the Levy. Jake's and the WYC are crowded, too. There is also another new bar where the Boiler Room used to be called Brother's. It's pretty cool, nice laid back atmosphere. I don't go to Where Else, too techno. What about accross the river in Lafayette? I like to go to Chumley's (150+ beers on tap  ) and Sgt. Prestons, and don't forget The Pub.

Cheap beer can be had any night of the week, it just depends on what you are willing to put up with to get it. ;) Mon and Tues you can find $. 25 longnecks at a couple of places, and Wed is Penny Pitcher night at Petes. Thurs you can hit the ole Cacti for $. 10 32 oz. mugs of the Champagne of Beers. Fri at the Cacti is $. 50 draft Bud Lite, Sat is kind of tough, but by then most aren't out for the specials.

I remember Pete's and Sgt Prestons. McGoo's, up on the hill, used to be owned by the same people that owned the Cactus.

I pretty much stayed with the Cactus, I didn't like the wall to wall crowds at most of the other choices on the weekends. I can also remember when the Cactus was "Skate - A - Way", and Sears was across the street.
