I am in need of a clutch, truck has 14,000 miles and I have no problems with daily driving but when im on the open road and feel the need for speed I turn the TST to 3-3 and the EZ to stage 3 at 60MPH I hit the pedal and the clutch starts to slip. to many to choose from any input would be appreciated.

Running a South bend Con FE in my rig, little grabby when loaded or trying to back up, but I guess all things come with a tradeoff.

did You install yourself

Not actually, good buddy of mine has a trans shop, so I let him and his boys do it while I stood back and watched, :D also had a rebuilt 5600 go in at the same time, blew up the original at 128k miles. Where are you located?

well there is no doubt that south bend is you best bet.

but before you decide on which clutch to buy, how much power do you plan on having? and do you plan to tow? the way i see it is do it right the first time and be happy.

Under 500HP get the OFE. IF your above that 500 mark it becomes a little more dicey. THe FE will hold, but you trade off some driveability, nothing bad, just jerky starts and backing up.

there is alot to say about a clutch i just got a con fe, new flywheel, and upgraded hydralics SBC's flywheel is bout $200 extra the bearings are better in it and you will have to pay around $50 to have yours resurfaced, next the SBC hydralics are adjustable which is a really nice feature. I did the install myself well halfway i am waiting for the right clutch disc to be shipped to me. First thing if you do it yourself make sure the clutch disc fits on your transmission shaft! Other than that if you have a flat surface and a good trans jack should be no problem. Take the transfer case off it will make it easier.

Hopefully tomorrow my right clutch disc will be in and i hope to enjoy my tst w/o any slippage Oo.

My truck has a Quad box that I can't use because in 5th or 6th it will slip if the go pedal is pressed, with the box off no slipping. I bought the box to use during towing but until I can find a place to do a SB clutch install I won't be able to see if I can pull with it. My truck now has only 48,900 miles on it.

Once you get the stock one hot it just gets worse and worse. For you guys that tow with over 450-500hp SBC just developed a really nice new Dual Disk that promises to be very streetable and easy to drive. You really need to be honest with yourself about where you will be at in the near future with the truck, not where you are now. If you tow and may add 50hp injectors to your current list, you will over run the FE and hate it backing up or on hills. Tell us more and we can make a better recommendation.

What is adjustable about the upgraded hydrolics? Does it adjust to where you would like the clutch to engage??

Thanks, Joe

it adjust with where your want your clutch pedal, but if you go with a stiffer clutch i have also heard of people having trouble getting it into gears with stock hydralics and some it works fine. I choose to do mine all at once which the parts will be in friday SBC made it right for me hats off to them!! You can change the hydralics from outside the transmission so if later you decide you want to upgrade you can. I would love to have that new dual disk, but that will put you over 2 grand for a clutch after hydralics and flywheel. I see in alot of peoples sigs they run the fe with tst stacked with a fuel box and injectors alone with a modded cp3 and upgraded turbo, so I believe this clutch will be good for me.

Thank you guys for all the input so far it's been helpfull.

The next five years? that's a lodded question ;) For sure the mods i will have is a bigger turbo or compounds (havent decided) a set of injectors, water meth, Fass fuel system and I'm sure a few little things in between.

+ I hope to do all of that and still tow my 31' fith wheel camper with a 14' tandom axle trailer with 3-4 four wheelers pulled behind it.

IS IT POSSIBLE OR AM I WISHFUL THINKING?

if you plan on all of that i would go with a good street double disc. or the new spring dampened unit thats coming out.

How about a clutch for 650 hp that is turned down to 375-400hp when towing gross 20K lbs. Something you can pull a sled with once in awhile, but can still start out from as stop sign without shaking everything out of the center console? Is there a clutch for that? Do I need hyd. ?
