I need a quality mouse trap............

I have this mouse that has chewed a hole into the side of my house, inside the garage. I have set a number of traps but the durn thing licks off the peanut butter. I know I have "cought" the thing TWICE only to escape, as evidenced by the fact the trap will be on the other side of the garage floor.



I got real smart and modified the trigger to be extra super sensitive like the hair trigger on my . 357 but to no avail.

How can they lick the peanut butter off the trip plate and not spring the trap?????





Suggestions for a better trap. I don't care how inhumane it may be. I'd opt to catch it live and burn it with gasoline.

i agree the glue traps are the way to go. it is a little scary though at 5:30 in the morning flipping on the light and the little guy is scooting across the kitchen floor cause one foot aint stuck to the trap.

GET a Cat (mouser)! If you don't want to own one borrow one. A well fed cat is the best hunter. If your real nice to them they will leave you the best body part for you.

Next to a real cat, this Victor Tin Cat trap used with the glue boards works really nice. Victor Tin Cat Repeating Mouse Trap - GEMPLER'S - Outdoor Work Supplies Without the glue board I have found that the little rodents have extremely powerful springs built into their toes, and as soon as you open the trap to remove them they like to launch to the top of your head. (The wife insisted I soak in a bleach solution for several hours before I would ever be able to get near to her again) Alternately, once the "captain" and maybe some "crew" are on board you can see how long the "mouse boat" floats in a bucket of water... or even play Beat the Cat with your favorite neighborhood feline...

I cought one last night. I used meat. I timmed it to allow the mouse to position his/her head just inside of the path of the spring loaded bar. Cought him right across the gizzard.

My yappy American Eskimo Dog, Lila does a pretty good job of catching and playing with mice and rats. I don't think she means it, but they seem to always die when they are "having fun and playing" with Lila.

The four cats in my house are lazy. Mouse walks by and they just lay there and look bored.

I place a dab of peanut butter under the trigger as well, which forces his head into it! It's that time of the year here in WI as well. We trap about 12 moles & mice each season. Don't forget to screw a heavier chunk of board to the bottom. I've lost traps without it!

When I went on 2 week vacations some how a rat would get into my Produce Trailer (or maybe he was there before I went) but I would be going thru some 1/2 bushel baskets that I keep odds and ends in and I see one put it on the floor. Pick my cat up off the counter and put her near the basket. I spend 15 minutes sicking her at the rat she finally would give up on me and jump back on the counter and go to sleep. Sometime during the day she would open hers eyes and jump down and disappear. Two days later the trailer would have bad oder in it. I would look around and find the rat dead.

The Health Inspector retired her in 2005(after she had been there for 12 years).

Did I have rat problems for a few years but I would finally get them with poison every year.

I also used a solution of apple cider vinegar (1gallon) and water(2 gallons) that kept them away from the stand later on.

Put the peanut butter on the bottom of the bait holder. that will cause the mouse tomove the trap more. SNAP

Have you considered bait instead of a trap? The little Decon boxes are what I use in a shed I have. You'll see the corner chewed off of it, then no more mice. I wouldn't use them around little kids or pets that might think chewing up a dead mouse is a good idea.

Absolutely the best rat/mouse trap I have ever used.

The What's the best way to get rid of rats? The Rat Zapper Electronic Rat Trap! RATZAPPER. I could go on and on about this little gem, but I'll save you the boring details. However, I will share how I came about owning one. I was at the local hardware store waiting in line, when the guy in front of me starts asking questions about the display on the counter. The clerk explains it is a mouse trap that runs on batteries. This particular model ran on 4 AA batteries, well the guy in front of me says no way are 4 AA batteries going to kill a mouse. So the kid turns the zapper on and hands the guy a screw-driver. Now I am fully interested, only thing missing now is for the guy in front of me to turn to me and say, "Here, hold my beer!". The rat zapper is sitting there, making no noise, the guy, holding the shank of the screwdriver, proceeds to touch the metal plate. What happened next had all of us standing in line laughing out loud. As soon as he touched the metal plate, he let out a little girl like scream and fell back away from the counter. I bought one on the spot. The Ratzapper has been improved, it now uses "D" batteries I believe. The cool thing is, it resets itself, and can keep killing, only problem would be if there were so many. they could actually fill the opening with bodies. You can pick up the zapper and empty it where you need to, so no need to deal with the mess a spring loaded trap creates. No need to let the critters starve on the glue traps. Kinda like the electric chair for Rats. No poisons.

Good info Hoof. I looked it up on Amazon just to read the reviews, and the reviews were hilarious.

I have a scoped air rifle that I use right now, but the neighbors don't really dig it after two or three shots. I may need to go sub-sonic. I hear 'em rustling around in my bamboo in the back once in a while, and I set up shop with a good angle on the adjacent bottlebrush tree, and I usually get one or two before I spook 'em... a lot like a wild trout pond.

I'm gonna try one of those bad boys and see how they work. I had to laugh while I read the Amazon reviews. One guy said he wasn't so sure about the AA's, so he MacGuyver'ed it to work with wall socket 120. Good stuff. I think you have a contender for "The Most Valuable Post Of The Year" for TDR.

Decon works, but not if ANY pets are nearby. Remember the pets could eat the dieing mouse and cause real problems. The mice around here dance on the glue traps. All I get is a pile of hair.
Greenleaf. Is there any food they are after? Anything with seed is a free meal.
