I just installed my transmission temp gauge in the Mag-Hytec pan the other day so I could finally monitor temps. So far my trips have been about 15 miles one way on back roads which results in temps of 125 degrees max. When I installed the temp sensor, fluid obviously drained from the pan and I replaced it with 6-8 oz. Drove for a bit, got it up to 105 degrees, and checked the fluid level. It was over full. So I drained it to the "ok" level on the stick. Next day, got temps up to 125 degrees, again over full. Again I drained some to get it back into the "ok" level.

I posted the graph from my 05 service manual, and if I go by that graph, at 125 degrees I'm just under the min level. I am guessing the stock transmission sees higher temps, so would this graph no longer apply to me? If I'm averaging 125 degrees, where should my level be without going over full when temps rise? At the bottom of the "ok" zone?

I don't want to run too high, because when it was, there was air bubbles on the stick, and I don't want to run too low and do damage that way either.

Thanks guys

How many quarts did you put in after you put on the MH pan?

When I installed my deep pan I just took the amount that came out when I took off the stock pan and added 2 quarts to it for the refill, without looking it up in my records I think it was around 7. 5 quarts. I checked it and it was at the full mark when up to temp, usually about 160-180 degrees after 30 minutes or so of city driving.

Bert, the MH pan was installed in Jan-Feb of this year. My transmission guy did it so I don't know how much additional fluid was added. BTW, is your transmission stock?

Stock transmission, I could be wrong but I think the only thing that will happen if it is a little over filled is if it gets really hot it will come out the dipstick tube.

If it is not too much hassle you could always drain it, measure what you take out. I am pretty sure if you drain the stock transmission by taking off the pan you will get between 5. 5 and 6 quarts so if the MH adds two quarts just put in 8 and you should be fine, unless of corse the transmission mods change the amount of fluid it holds which I do not know.
