You guys crack me up. :-laf

It's hard to say... but I think it was my belching skills that won most of them over. :p

Matt

Aaaargh. Didn't you see the last episode of "Things I can't stand about you"? Or whatever that show is called. The guy's gripe was that his wife was always looking for back rubs. Hers was that he belched constantly (well, OK, interspersed with copious amounts of audible flatus). He said it was an "illness". Guess who won? Of course all the judges were ladies, but I voted with them.

I saw this thread right after HH posted his picture, I decided to be polite and not say a word but I did have a few thoughts. Thanks for picking up my slack guys, there are some winners here.

Karen: There's nothing to be ashamed about if you can't chug beer. :D

I've never seen that show... maybe I should start watching.

Gee... thanks, Tim. :-laf

update

Have to post this. Mechanic just called. He is the "Dodge expert". He said that my 5th gear was not broken, just needs a nut. Ummm, I told that was why I had picked up a nut at the Dodge house and had given it to him with the truck. He seemed surprised that he did not have to drop the transmission to fix it. Then he said he did not know if I need to replace the pilot bearing and that he does not know anything about transmissions, did not mention clutches. I described what the truck is doing and he said he does not know anything about transmissions (again). Hmmm... I told him a working 5th was sufficient and told him that if he could change the oil to please do it and I will worry about the other later. Oh My!!! Don't touch it no more!!!

Geez, I've got to get a new monitor. This one must be acting up, because the thread says there is a picture of HH on here but all I see is Bud Bundy sitting on a toy motorcycle! :p :D Oo.

If we are gonna be looking at Bundys, I wanna see Kelly!
:D Oo. :-laf :D Oo. :-laf -------- Oh he!! , I have seen all of the Married With Children shows and plenty of Kelly . I want too see a picture of Karen on a horse . ;)

Uh Oh

Shop called me. They broke it. While torqueing down the 5th gear nut, something broke. They had to drill the nut out and said they are not comfortable with it. Me either!!! Supposed to have new parts in tomorrow on the bus (hope they get here) to try again. Yikes... starting to get nervous since I AM going to Colorado Springs Thurs. Hope I don't have to stand on the side of the road with my thumb out. Sure might hurt my feelings if nobody stops. LOL

Hmmm, WY, horses, no TV, and doesn't chug beer.

This gal has got it together! HH see if she has any daughters. Oo.

NG - keep your daughters away from HH. :-laf

Nearly a tragic ending

My cousin was within inches of being killed in my truck yesterday. He gave me a ride to get the truck and he started driving it back to work. I was about 2 minutes behind him in his car and rounded a curve and there was my truck FACING me on the center stripe in the middle of lots of skid marks and tire smoke. The transmission had locked up at 70+ miles an hour and threw the transfer case into low range. Obviously God stepped in and said "No Michael, it is not time yet".

Michael was so undone that he jumped in his car and left! The Dodge was not going to move so I stood in the middle of the highway to try to keep folks from plowing into it. It was on a mountain road with very steep drop offs on both sides so no where to go. Called the shop and they showed up in about 30 minutes dropped the drivelines and towed it.

The shop owner was very distressed to tell me that his mechanic had NOT PUT OIL IN THE GEAR BOX!!!!

Very stupid error nearly cost somebody his life.

This story is killing me! I mean, even without all of HH's drama. Where did you find this "Dodge guy"? HE DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE!!!!! Make the shop buy you a rebuild from Standard Trans or some other place and be sure it has the fuly splined mainshaft in it. What a headach.

Karen,

Maybe the silver lining in this is that the shop has messed up the NV4500 to the point that they will replace it with a rebuild from Standard or Blumenthal's with a 5th gear fix already installed. Heck, if they're paying, go for the NV5600 conversion while you're at it! ;)

Now, on to the important matters of life - are the burgers better at Texas Cafe or Pop's?? ;) :D

Rusty

The transmission in question is a Blumenthal's with the fully splined mainshaft. That I have learned is not the 5th gear fix. At least not for me! I am not sure if it is my truck or just me that causes one story after another. I would sure like to go to the NV 5600, but don't know if I can convince them of it.

My panic level is rising a bit since I am going to see my son at the Air Force Academy and I have not left yet! I had 3 Suburbans and 2 cars offered to me. The Suburban I opted for is now in the shop... yes THE SHOP... for an evaluation before going away and they have not even looked at it yet. Seeing how they contributed to me being stranded it seems like they would be anxious to get me out of here.

I know I know, patience is learned not earned.

Burgers

Rusty forgot to answer that one. By Texas Cafe I think you mean Drugstore and Old Texas Inn. Seeing how a first cousin (small towns) owns that i have to be partial to them Pop's is good, too. Look me up next time you are here.

Drugstore is owned by a Rusty.

Karen,

Oops - my bad! Yep, I meant the Drugstore and Old Texas Inn. We used to own some property out at Limpia Crossing and had planned to build our retirement home there before we were transferred back to Texas - we sold our land in 2000. We still get the Mountain Dispatch, though, to keep track of the local goings on and try to get out there with the RV every year or two to get out of the Houston rat race!

Best of luck in getting the truck fixed. ;) :D
