Santa gave me some turbo money!

Anybody gotta J. R. Adkins Li'l 55 for sale? I can't afford a new one but I got the cash for a nice used one. The guy in the classifieds don't answer his e-mail.

Anybody see a Li'l 55/ 16 made by the man layin' around, let me know.

How much HP ya got? Are you sure you don't want the 14cm housing, it flows more than you might think with that big ol' turbine in there.

Nah, I don't want 14 housings or that snake oil dual wastegate crap. This ain't no hotrod I'm buildin'. It's a locomotive. I'll trade spool up for mountain climbin'.

If I could buy a SP 66 with a SINGLE WG 16, I wouldn't be looking at this fistful of money in my paw!

Dual Wastegates. Why bother to put a turbo on at all? Let's just dump all the exhaust OUT of the turbine housing.

Sorry, rant finished. :D

Just go with an aurora5000 with a larg housing if you don't care about spool up. Is your concern dumping too much out of the wastegate or not enough?

ThrottleJockey; the lil 55/16 is a good turbo. It was not slow spooling, you do need some fuel, not sure what your running. J. R. is a very excellent guy to deal with.

Ditto - I've dealt extensively with J. R. in building my trucks and have gotten great parts and great customer service at a very reasonable price.

I considered a 55 hybrid for my first gen but ended up deciding to have J. R. modify an H2E for it instead (cheaper). I'm sure you'll love the 55 - I've heard nothing but good things about them. Good luck.

After all the 55s I blew up on Sickly, I wouldn't put one on if it were free. I love my High Tech 66.

Don't mince words, Joe. Tell me how you really feel. :D

I hear you though. Zstroken just educated me in a PM. Seriously, I LOVE the SP 66, (Modified S-300?) I just want one with a non wastegated 16 housing. IF it came with ONE wastegate, I could still be convinced to buy it. But two? I'm worried about dumping too much exhaust.

An SP 66 with a 16 wouldn't surge while towing either, I'll bet.

what's wrong w/ a dual port gate? it equalizes the heat and pressure between the cylinders... it won't dump any more exhaust than you want it to... my little sps62 is making 55psi of boost w/ 50psi drive pressure, spool up is insane (I've got 45psi around 1900rpm), and I don't have two friends that turned them into overpriced door stops... I have seen a couple recent posts about guys who have thrusted their sps62s, and scrolling down showed that II stood behind their product

just my experience

Nothing, I guess. I just like to run a bigger Exhaust housing. I wouldn't run a WG at all if I had my druthers. But oh well. You know the sayin. Wish in one hand... .

lol! then why run a lil 55, just run a full sized one, it'll spool nice and slow for ya, guaranteed not to surge! :D

I've run exhaust housings from 9 to 21 sq. cm. The High Tech 14 with dual port wastegates gives excellent spool up and driveability while moderating the max egt well. The Holset system is unbalanced because it wastegates only 3 cylinders ((4,5,6) meaning the rear half of the manifold and rear scroll. For dynoing only, a 16 dual port would be nice, but more sluggish on the street and/or smokier.

Oh, yeah, how I really feel? Holset can not pass go or collect another $200 from me for their weak shaft, sluggish, 55grenades. Now I know why they would not give any warranty on them, not even 3 feet or 30 seconds.

im one of them, and i am not going to go into details, but II stood behind their product more than i think they should have or needed to, just plain amazing. i wont run anything but an II turbo on mine, and if i can help it, my friends rigs. i absolutely love my SPS62. run what you want but just try to stay open minded... my . 02

The HX55 is fragile and old school... ... Look into the newr design hydrid turbos being made, most are strong, offer resonable spoolup, and will stay together.

Forrest is too nice so I won't be, I'd drag a 55 down any track, sled or quarter or off the dyno with my 2 year old SPS 66. No way would it ever take a 800 hp hit... ... no way... ... BOOM!

Jim

I've run an HX50 for the last year (supposedly even worse than a 55). It is a hybrid, not off the shelf. However, I've gone against several top-dollar S300 varients on the pulling track. One S300 varient out of 20+ guys using them beat me and my poor hx50. I say find a 55, poor the coals to it, and not look back... .....
