There's your 1,000 word for the pic...

That is one of the best written articles that I have read in months. It is so completly true that it's not even funny.

Well written article... quite a change from the 'Anti-Diesel Morons' thread that was going a while back. It is great to see someone that doesn't own a CTD understands what it is all about.

I think I'm in Love!! Ronald Khol, you're my hero - preach to us man!! Check out another article by the same guy - http://www.machinedesign.com/conten...tml&articleID=41176&subcolumnID=401&columnID= . This is the kind of stuff that gave us all the innovative and cool products from Chrysler (before the Germans took over - I was born in Germany, BTW). Bob Lutz WAS and IS a car guy - now that he's gone to GM maybe he can bring some of that PASSION to them! He and Eaton filled the upper ranks of Chrysler with car guys - and look at the awesome products that came out of it (especially when compared to the hideous K-cars before) - Ram, Viper, Prowler, the LH cars, and the PT Cruiser - then the Germans put bean counters back in control! We need people with passion about the vehicles they and us drive in control - can I hear an AMEN!?

Addition - just came across an article from him about software - http://www.machinedesign.com/conten...+houses+pilloried+for+bad+products?&columnID= . This guy is a genius! Microsoft NEEDS to read this one!

Steve, the second hyperlink in your last post is broken.

Socal,

try it again, it worked for me. The title is "Why aren't software houses pilloried for bad products?"

My sister-in-lay has a SUV and my wife complained that the insurance was higher than normal. It seems that a LOT of clueless drivers run over import cars with SUV's... Survival of the fittest... Here in Michigan we had a Ugo fly off the Mighty Mac on a windy day. I have to say that small cars are unsafe.

In the countdown to the release of the Chrysler LH cars, one of the major automotive magazines interviewed some of the Chrysler engineers. One of hte quotes stands out in my mind.

I can't repeat it verbatim, but I can relay the gist...

"I can't believe they pay me to work. I am having so much fun, I'd do this for FREE!"

This was coming from a guy who worked on the 24V 3. 5 liter engine program. His job was to work out valvetrain design. When he asked what the parameters were for his engine, he was told that the engine redline would be governed for 6200, but that the guys working on the bottom end of the engine wanted to try out some "hot" versions in prototypes. So, all on his own, he set about designing a valvetrain that would be reliable to 8500.

So, the 214HP OHC 3. 5 in the Intrepid may have been governed to 6200, but the engineers made it entirely capable of an 8500 RPM dyno run. Why? Because they could. Because nobody told them to scrimp on a few hours of design work necessary to make it that much better. And because nobody told manufacturing to change it to inferior design... Because it was "thier" motor, and they were dang proud of it!

Now THAT is how you get the best dang cars... Not having some arrogant jerk in Germany tell you that "you suck".

The 3. 5 is up to 254HP(or at least it was in 99) My mom has a 99 300M with that motor in it. A little slow on the low end but WOW she screams all the way to 6500 without hardly a sound. The 300M is an awsome car!! My mom has had nothing but great luck with hers. I have only gotten a chance to drive it 2 or 3 times but its cool. If the gears were not so scattered out the car would run alot better. It really takes a hit when you shift it. With some better gear spacing I think that heavy car could go into the 14s. It really strokes it in the upper RPMs.

Remember when Chrysler would just give a Viper to a magazine to play with for a few weeks. They tore the hell out of it and then gave it great reviews. One publishing company put quotes from the editors off all there different mags with there opinion on the Viper. The most impressed guy was the editor for Corvette Monthly lol. Since the DC take over you never see stuff like that. Oh well

It is nice to see someone who understands-real Diesels rattle! :D

It would be a great pleasure to send Jurgen Schrempp and his looser bunch of execs back to Germany!

Ronald Khol for president

Well, maybe that's a bit premature, but you gotta love the guy anyway. Actually speaks his mind, a rare commodity these days.
