I want more fuel millage! HELP!!! i have a 2nd generation 24V and i was just wandering what the best thing to do for more fuel effiecency? injectors, exhaust, fuel pump, turbo, chip? also, i saw some forums about the injector pumps on the 24V's not being all that great? would it be the best thing for me to kill 2 birds with one stone and upgrade to fix the problem before it happens and maybe get some better millage that way, or will it not be worth my while or money?

thanks,

Spencer Strickland

Whats your milage currently with your set up???

Comp gave me 2MPG across the board ;) ;) ;)

Do not replace the VP unless it goes south. Some have proven to last quite awhile ;) ;) ;) If and when it dies you will want to go with a Hot Rod VP.

Get your self some gauges before you do anything. I. E Fuel Pressure Oo. , EGT Oo. , Boost Oo.

Best mileage improments have been from a little larger injector, and a mild box.

Try Don M's Mach 1. 6 's or the 275 injectors. Then I'd say get a catcher or wait till the new Smarty is released. If that isn't affordable, go with a E-Z box for the timong benefit.

I don't see any improvements in mileage from a turbo, exhaust or fuel pump. Unless you are towing heavy.

Slowing down will help out alot. Try to keep it under 70 MPH. On the highway I can get 20-22 MPG. I didn't see any change MPG when I got the Edge EZ. My overall ave 19. 5 MPG in 234 tanks. Lowest ave 15. 5 Highest 22. 5

mileage

You can spend alot of money trying to save a little on fuel but after 50 years on this planet I found out by far the best addition is a lighter foot.

thanks fellows! has anyone tried those vortex, or tornado things where you put in your intake pipe that's supposed to spin the air goin' to the motor? they seem like a good idea but i was just wandering if they're to good to be true?

IMHO DON'T waste your money on those. BTW Welcome to TDR Keeping the boost clamps tight will help there are 9 of them and the spec is 95 INCH LBS. (Not FT LBS)

As for the tornado I have tested one in a camaro z28 ona chassis dyno, we got 1 hp and lost 2lbs of torque, as for milage I cant tell you how they work but Im scepticle, too many things that can change the vortex to just normal air. all the bends, intercooler, and valves, dont see how it can keep a vortex through the intercooler, and valves. imo.

A local shop did some testing with a simular products and found a loss in HP. This product is still hanging on the wall of that dyno shop. I don't know if they work in a gasser and they might but we are talking diesels.

I have a friend who put one on his 2001 CTD. One of the blades broke off and caused a nasty little meltdown on the grid heater. I don't beleive I'll be buying one soon.

we will be collecting data and reporting back on the smarty's fuel saver program.

Marco saw a 15% increase over in Italy and Marco's driving style is foot planted on floor :-laf

keep your ear's open :)

Strickland, I have a 98. 5 24 and have a Edge Comp box, with 65 HP EDM injectors, and AFE air filter 3:54 rear end 4 wheel drive long bed with a canopy and tool box in the bed. I run the comp box on 1 & 1 (power and fuel) and get consistantly 22 mpgs all around driving with an automatic and 18 mpgs towing a 7000 lb travel trailer. Got all my parts and injectors from RIP at Source Automotive in Portland Oregon. Great guy to deal with and honest. Dragginass Ranch in Central Oregon. Good luck

Read my signature. I can get 23. 8 mpg if I keep my foot out of it. With 7,000 lbs (car trailer and load) at 65 mph, I get 18. 5. My worst mileage was at 23,000 lbs total at 15. 5 mpg. When I tow, I leave my Edge Comp in Level 1 and drive with a very light foot. My cruise is fixed for a very slow reaction via a precision needle valve that I can adjust.

Your biggest advantage is your foot though ;)

i must be doing something wrong. i am lucky if i get 15 mpg. i have thought about switching to 3. 55's. maybe that is what i have to do.

Every once in a while, it seems you need to hook up something heavy and drive like you stole it, this usually renders better mileage, at least for a while.

My list, slow down, air up the tires, check valvelash, edm's or (matched)275's , TAG(gave me a solid 0. 6mpg) , smooth shell or cap, and fuel additatve(save VP and fuel).
