Ideas for horn bombing?

This idiot cut me off the other day, and as I was giving him the obligatory south east Michigan salute and the mandatory horn abuse, I realized that my horn didn't really match the truck. Any ideas / suggestions on how to make it sound like a manly man's horn? I'm looking for something that's maybe a little lower pitch, and much more agressive sounding.

JC whitney sells "freeway blaster" horns that are supposed to be louder than stock, but sound similar. I've never used them, but these might be just what you are looking for.



For those special occasions that mandate a pants cleaning though, nothing beats the noise created by a healthy air horn. 120psi and 130db (so says the package) of road clearing, idiot startling, cell phone dropping noise.



I have a single grover mounted behind the front bumper and I love it. I'll probably get a ticket or shot for using it one day, but I drive allot in heavy traffic and refuse to have a big truck with a little car horn.



These things are amazingly loud! It does call for some restraint though, I have seen people over-react to the point that if I had any idea how bad they would react I would not have used it, but would have just gotten out of their way.

Hmm,, Seems Like I could use one of those.....



I know the info is in the TDR forums,, now I gotta piece it all together.

A few people here in my town could use a good pants-cleaning, cell phone dropping warning to not pull-out right in front of me.



No to mention how much comic relief these horns could have..... I wouldn't do anything to scare anybody though Not little 'ole me. .

Air Horns

The two big names on this site are Grover & Hadley (hopefully I spelled them right). A search should make you ready to pull out the wallet.

Dave, I like Mike have the Grover mounted behind the front bumper. It will do the job! If you like to do it yourself like I do here are a couple of tips. Look for a salvage yard for trucks you can usually get a good air horn fairly cheap. You might find a solnoid valve there too, although they might be 24 volt, I tried one and they won't work, you need 12 volt.

I paid 20 bucks for a new 5 gal air tank. It will mount nicely on outer frame rail on passenger side. Install solnoid at tank. Run 1/4" pressure hose inside the right frame rail, install push button on lower dash wired to ign on only, fill tank and have fun.

I hadn't thought about just a "refillable tank" I always thought of compressors relays,, etc. etc.



About how long does a 5 gallon tank of 120PSI last ?

I picked up a new small propane tank free at the local clean out the garage day. It will mount perfect on the frame rail, and I can mount fittings in the front so I can re-charge it with my 66Gal air tank in the garage. I also want the air to fill up the floating toys the kids use at the lake. Should be good for a few blasts

I got the Grover kit from Rickson -- two horns, tank, compressor, and fittings. I mounted it right behind the stock bumper, on the front frame rail, and wired the solenoid into the stock horn leads.



A few weeks ago, I hit the horn to encourage the dozer in front of me to turn left, since the light had been green long enough. The poor woman in the minivan next to him spilled her coffee on the headliner, and demonstrated her displeasure as I drove past her. I'm sure she'd have been really impressed, had I goosed the pedal and filled her window with #2 perfume.

I have the Firestone on board compressor that comes with their air bag system. Would that be enough pressure for an air horn?

I mounted an air tank to the frame and use the 12volt solenoid hooked up the the stock horns, so it goes off with the horn button. I have my own air compressor at home so it is not inconvenient to keep the tank full. It does last for several good blasts.

You should know the Puget Sound driving regulations do not allow you to sound your horn at any idiot driver, no matter how deserving.

I never followed the rules myself even after 16 years of living there. I haven't missed the traffic once since leaving. I do miss the best group of Ramers...

I have the Hadly "Bully" air horns mounted behind the front bumber and wired to the factory switch. These horns are obnoxios at best. I've gotten more "wide open eye stares", "what the #$%# was that" looks. Hadly claims 133 dc and I'm prone to believe there claim.

Merrick, How long does the air last in a 5 gal. tank. . Well it lasts quite a while for me becouse I don't use it very often. Like Leon I have my own shop air compressor, so filling it is no problem and really even if you don't have a compressor you can easily fill up at any gas station that has air. The air tank is a little cheaper than a 135. 00 dollar 12 volt compressor (est. ) But if you have excess bucks the little 12 volt compressor is the way to go.



What ever the cost is, it is worth it when you blow some of these idiot away and see the look on their faces.

Hey pnwradar: How much is this kit? I went to the Rickson site but it's under construction. I saw the Whitney's kit but I'd like to speak with someone who already has it. Most of the air horns I've heard are too high pitched. I want a big rig sound. How loud and deep are the horns? TIA

You need to get a Train horn 150+db!!! I have two sets on my Truck . I run a 4cfm 180+ psi compressor 100% duty cycle,with 12 gal air supply. I can hold ablast about 30-40 sec non stop,it will clear a path So if you want a real horn you can call Kustom Truck 530-674-1376

J. C. Whitney have the Hadley Bully's, they don't advertise them as Hadley Bullys, they are around $249. 00.



I have the Bullys and Papa Joe has the Grovers. The Grovers sound more like a big rig, while the Bullys are a little more shrill and louder. The Bullys get peoples attention! The Bullys are also better quality than the Grovers. If you do a search you should find several threads about the problems with the Grovers.

Picked up a set of airhorns in India back in '96. You need to understand India - lights, turn signals, wipers and other safety items are optional, but having a wimpy horn is a felony. I've moved them from my '95 CTD to a Dakota to my 01. 5. Wired them in parallel with the stock horn - can no longer hear the stock horn at all.



The set I got has a four stage compressor that works off 12V. Each stage connects to a different pitched horn. A jumper selects either an alternating tone (guaranteed to get attention) or all horns blasting at once (sounds like a train but not quite as loud).



Paid $35 for the set. Actually made in Italy but never seen anything like them sold here. Heading back over there in a couple of weeks, and if I find a good supply source I'll post again if there is any interest from the membership.

I ordered an inexopensive set from JC Whitney and have been pretty happy with them. $59- but I think I got 10% off, I can't remember. They use a rather powerful 12 volt instant compressor, no tank is needed. Horns



No they aren't Grovers or Hadleys- but they are much louder than stock, and sound good. Kind of a mid tone, not real low like the Grovers. Either way they do they trick when needed, and I didn't spend $300.
