A false belief, long held, remains false

Twas the night before ?

Rant, long.

Why is it when you are trying to pass somebody, they think they own the left hand lane on a six lane interstate.

I almost had a green BMW for a hood orniment last night.

I was polite for ~ 1min to let them move to the left.

Then I flash my high beams to let them know I wanted to pass and them they promptly jam on their brakes tying to cause and accident. ( there was no cars infront of them for at least 1000')

Don't they know they a 8000lbs truck out trumps a 3000lb tin can every time????

When I have had it with these idiots that want to play cat and mouse.....

Well, Some other truck F350 crew cab zipped by me on the right and pulled in front of the BWM. All of a sudden this idiot reconsidered with playing samwich with two large pickup trucks.

I don't think they will play again at least not for a while.

I don't know who was driving the other F350 crew cab, but it was nice to have back up.

No, I did not hit them.

Now, I know they are officers of the law that say it would be my fault. But I am tired of these idiots thinking they can rule the road, try and cause accidents, and then blame everybody else for their problems.

I always drive very defensivly, courtious, ( I give truckers lots of room and the common courticy as they make a living at it. ) let other people pull in front of me, etc.

This has been edited..... with better thought... .

I appologize for such a long rant,

i went through this in our wacky state a few years ago. i found out from the highway patrol that it is ok to pass on the right. i was constantly dealing with this problem on our (toll) turnpike. the law actually applies to 2 or more lanes going the same direction on an interstate or highway. since then, i have resigned myself from the "logically" correct thing and adopted the "legally" correct method and pass on the right.

obviously this is not the way i was raised but i am glad to not aggrevate myself any longer.

What's the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?

A porcupine has the pricks on the outside. :-laf

Rotty,

I feel your pain. I have been all over the world and driven in most of those countries. And in all of those countries not one of them play the games that American drivers do. The drivers in this country are by far and away the most rude and discourteous drivers in the world. Don't confuse aggressive with discourtious. Even in countries known for their aggressive driving(Germany, Italy, Spain. Koreans are just plain crazy. Singapore is the best I've experienced)they don't play the games that the drivers here do. Everyone in this country think that they own the road and it is their job to enforce what ever law they want.

Passing these idiots does present some trouble I agree.

What gets me is when approaching an onramp and you pull over to allow the driver to merge onto the freeway.

Only to have them pull in front of you and still doing 40 mph that they were doing originally.

Try to pass them, and they suddenly discover the go faster pedal and disappear.

They do that to me in the big truck, too.

The other thing that ****** me off is, when you have plenty of room, and need to get over to let someone on the interstate, they floor it and pass me.

Even had a guy hold back for me (thinking they were doing that to let me over) while waited for a car to pass me, so I could get over to pass another rig, and once I flipped on the blinker they floored it. #@$%!

You just want to jump out and knock them in the head with a stump.

come to toronto... passing on left or right is common place. . i do it too. . if i am going faster, i find my window and go through it. i won't wait for a slower car in the left lane to move for me to pass. .

now with that said, 99% of my driving is in the city. . when i do venture onto the highways, the cruise gets set at 100kph and i park myself in the right lane and only move from there when needed [large trucks getting up to speed on onramps etc... ]

Man-o-man, I don't know anywhere in the U. S. where you wouldn't get run over doing 62mph(100kph). I thought I was a fast driver until I got to the big city. Wow, I'm just about Jed Clampet compaired to those folks.

Going from Cal to Nevada is where you find that the posted speed is largely ignored.

Its posted 70 but if you dont do at least 75-80 they will run you over.

Especially coming from Vegas to Cal. on a Sunday.

Thats why we always make that trip during the week.

In regards to BMoeler posted, I have seen idiots sit just in front of a double trailer or just beside the tractor when the driver is trying to change lanes and refuse to either speed up and pass or backoff and let the truck in.

Near as I figure, they dont want something they cant see around in front of them.

Or they are plain ignorant.

My issue with some drivers is that they don't use a turn signal. They just come over in your lane without warning.

I don't know if it is Utah or the quality of semi drivers is declining. The speed limit is 65 and they are doing 75 in traffic or construction zones. If someone stops in front of them there is no way they can get the rig stopped. We have had way too many semi related accidents in the last year including a truck that crossed the median and ran over a oncoming car killing the driver.

I know what you mean about using turn signals.

Its the same here in Cal as well.

It used to be when you let a big rig in, they would blink their lights as a thank you.

Lately, Iv noticed they dont do that.

Only the drivers that have been on the road for a while do.

in a month, i might drive 100km total on the hwy's, and usually off peak traffic times, no i shoot for fuel economy over speed [and my speedo is off ±10% slow]

A lot of the trucks used by large fleets aren't set up to do that... the drivers would have to blink their headlights, then, something unexpected may happen in front of them.

And some guys are just ignorant.

As a truck driver, I try to be very courteous, and I really appreciate it when I'm shown the same courtesy.

Can not remember where I read this method but once you get the timing down it is easy to use. As a thank you signal, hit the emergency flasher for two blinks and turn off. Makes you feel good to be able to acknowledge a kind jester.

MOST driver's here in Texas (DFW area) don't bother with the turn signals, including the trucker's using ALL the lanes on I-35E. My biggest pet peave lately are the driver's that don't pay attention to signs or road markings... driving along the right shoulder instead of merging into traffic, and turning into any lane they so chose when there is more than one turning lane. Tailgaters are easy to deal with driving the 93, but even the black cloud doen't make some of them back off.

I've been run into more times in Texas this past year than in 15 years living in California. People wonder why I leave the 04 Ram at home in the garage and drive the not-so-pretty truck every day.

I could go on and on, but my blood pressure is rising.

Marc

I just laugh at the people who get ****** when you can't move so they can merge because there is someone in the other lane. I had one lady speed up get in front of me after the ramp and then slow down. As for the truckers I am as curtious to them as possible to the point I will let them pass during rush hour and to bad for the others on the road. You might be suprised how far down the road ahead of that guy the favor might be returned. I am no pro trucker, just run'em to haul grain to elevator and that is enough to get a lot of rspect for the pros.

I think a lot of this boils down too the fact that the common courtesy that was taught to us 20+ yr's ago now no longer seem's to mean anything.

Things like blinking (not flashing) your lights at a truck, using your turn signals, merging with the highway/freeway traffic (not making traffic merge with you), the farther to the left you are on a highway the faster you should be (not doing 60 mph), passing on the left, and on and on... ...

Ever wonder where road rage comes from??

Oh, and this also applies to those of you who run your fog lights any time you turn your lights on. I do not like being blinded by your stud/pimp lights. Your not a stud/pimp, you do not need them. Do you like being blinded ?

Right on.

Common courtesy is not so common anymore. :( (anywhere)
