every one must see this! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

If I have one pet peeve other than electronic overcomplication :-laf it would be idiot salespeople. I am buying your product you should know it like the back of your hand. I would never try selling something without knowing extensivly about it.

I go to a local motorcycle/atv/boat store in Covina CA called berts mega mall. I was looking for a 2002 Honda CR250 dirtbike and wanted to sit on some new ones and see if I found anything i might like better than the cr250.

I'm standing next to this couple and a salesman that is showing them a new TTR125 and other yamaha bikes. The man asks the salesman, "What is the difference between these trail bike suspensions and dirt bike suspensions?"

Now, here is what the salesman told him- "Well Sir, the trailbike suspension is made for riding on trails and the dirtbike suspensions are more for the dirt. "

Hmm, I did not know that trails were not made from dirt.

Then the guy accually asks him another question. He said, "I don't like how these new dirtbikes have electric start on them, why are they putting electric start on new bikes?" The moron salesman replies, "Lots of kids are riding today and they cannot kick the bikes over since they have so much combustion. "

Hmm, I didn't think the combustion process started until the bike accually started. LOL Maybe the fool meant compression. Another good point, if you can't kick the bike over, then you should not be on it :-laf

I could only shake my head and laugh. These guys are selling lots of bikes and making good money, If they knew the product think of all extra sales they would make.

Anyone got anymore good salesmoron stories?

My personal favorite was about 3 years ago..... I decided to go run through a neighboring town looking for a 12 Valve Club Cab to replace my Reg cab.

Looked at what was on the lot (no used ones all only 2002's)... ... well this yankee salesmen walked up and started the usual... ... . I informed him what I was looking for "used"... . they didn't have any... ... then he proceeded to tell me that the Dodge Cummins (he got that right  ) didn't come equipped with turbo's.

Proceeded to walk him over to my truck and show him the door badge, then explain that the Cummins equipped trucks were turbo'd from the start back to '89.

I've found if a Salemans mouth is moving... . he's lying!

Try being a technican standing next to a service advisor that is trying to explain how something works on a car. Ya right! I'm not gonna even start with some of the stuff I've heard there.....

I think it all boils down to making money at what you are doing or making money selling something that you like/believe in. I have had several similar situation shopping for ATVs and motorcycles. Trucks on the other hand, have actually produced more competent salespeople. At least where I bought my last one (Tommeygun). Now I did try to go by a competitor locally and was pleasently surprised that this gentleman, totally believed that I could not understand what his truck looked like inside and out without walking all the way up to it. Geeze I just pulled in with the duplicate truck in his parking lot (yes he watched me pull in). All I wanted was a price. Oh well. Turns out they have a good service and parts department. After the laugh-athon I had with their "best price" (sales manager was ticked at our display), we bought some mudflaps and then had the oil changed. Their service guy must be a TDR member, cause he gave the long list of things to make sure you keep an eye on like some of you guys on here. I am loving TDR more and more each day.

I know what you mean. When I bought my truck, I got 3 different answers

from 3 different salesmen/management people on how the warranty actually was.

My question was what was the years/miles on engine, trans and rear axle, and

bumper to bumper. Not sure I really know yet on the trans and axle, guess I'll

find out when/if the time comes! It was obvious too that I knew more about

the axle ratio options than they did. They just didn't really seem very "up"

on the 2500 and 3500 trucks. But, I thougt it was a deal - bought in July of

02 and the inspection sticker on it was February. They were ready for it to

find a new home! They gave me crap about filling it up, too. The low fuel

light came on when I test drove it. They did finally come up with about 25 gal.

Wasn't the 555 cubic inch displacement engine also known as the Triple Nickel a V8 Cummins

So was/is the 903, and a lot of the really big stuff is a v-8, or v-12, or I think they might even still make a v-16.

What Dl5treez was trying to say was that you see a lot of used Dodges on e-bay and autotrader type sites listed as having a 5. 9 liter V-8 Cummings diesel, instead of an I-6 Cummins diesel.

EBottema,

If you’re looking for a dirtbike dealership you need to stay away from Bert’s and Chaparral, they never kick down with the deals, the only good things they have are sales on clothes. I think the best places I have ever bought my bikes from were, from the regular small mom and pops places like John Berr and Malcolm Smith. If your looking for a Honda, I would suggest a CRF250, unless your sold on two stroke... the torque and power of the four stroker is unbelievable, you need to ride one to understand what I’m talking about, hey if your ever in Riverside, Ill let you take off on my CRF450 alittle bigger then the CRF250 but, I’m betting you’ll come back with a smile from cheek to cheek.

Hey Thanks for the offer I might have to show up one day

I just went to Berts to sit on a few bikes, I would never buy a new bike again unless it was from a small store like Honda of Glendale. Berts has a huge showroom so I can sit on all their junk. :-laf

They really are good for one thing, people who want to buy on credit, they are like any big dealer. However, I am suprised to tell you, in 2002, I bought my 400ex quad from berts. I called over 25 dealers, from small places to big one. Even went to Los angeles honda which is usually the lowest prices in socal. On a whim, I called berts as a joke and talked to a salesman, he accually gave me a price on the phone and it was hundreds cheaper than everywhere. I hurried down their and he said he could not honor the price and that price was only if I got 2 bikes. I said no, lets see the manager. Well, I got the price honored but nobody was happy about it. I think they lost money on that deal :-laf He also told me over the phone that I would get 10percent in parts and acc. dept till the end of time if I bought a bike there. I had them put that in writing too haha. :-laf

I was looking at 2 and 4 stokes, I like the 2strokes since they are light . In 06-07, that is the end of the 2 strokes in california so I will end up getting a 4 stroke in a few years maybe but I wanted to get a green sticker preban 2 stroke while I still had time :D I picked up a used 02 CR250, bone stock, very clean bike with a skidplate and bars on it for 2700 bucks private party. I think I got a pretty fair deal, the guy even wrote I paid 500 for it on the taxes. I'm glad I own a honda, I can't stand any non-honda atv/moto.

I'll hit you up sometime im in Riverside...
