I just got back from a 700 mile round trip. I noticed that when I run 65-70 mph for a couple of hundred miles, After I cool it down, shut it off, when I get ready to fire it up again the idle is way low . Sounds like about 200 rpm lower of where it should be. I can rev it up a little & the RPM's come up. Anyone have an idea why it does that? It doesn't seem to keep the idle set. Could I be sucking air:eek:

You mean to tell me that NOBODY even has a clue???????

Is this a first for this problem?

Can it be timing? or just simply resetting the idle? or could it be more involved?

Getting it hot could be 'melting' some grease and lubricating something that's getting a little dry and/or rusty. Spray PB Blaster on the shaft at the back end of the p-pump where the idle speed is controlled. Work it in good. Then set the idle.

Idle speed, auto trans 750-800 rpm with trans in drive and a/c on.

Manual 780 rpm trans in neutral and a/c on.

Mine rpm starts out lower when cold but when it warms up it is normal.

how do i get my truck info below my threads like the rest of you

Go up top to the "Discussion Forums" menu, click on "User Control Panel. " On the left hand side of the screen, click on "Edit Signature. " Fill in your details, and you're good to go.

If not a linkage, a long shot would be the overflow valve sticking after heavy use and resulting in low fuel pressure until it frees up.

I have a Torq-tek overflow valve that I replaced due to losing prime on fuel system from internal leakage and it made for longer cranking time than normal 12v's
