Ok guys I am stumped. How do you adjust the idle screw? I have tried for an hour and didnt even get the lock nut loose. Any sugestions would greatly help.
I used a pair of needle nosed vice grips,but i've heard of guys grinding the idle screw off a little (not for me). Whatever you do don't try to bend the bracket that rests on the screw it's very brittle,and will break. If i remember right i also used a wrench,and was able to move the nut a little from the end. Good luck it's a pain!#@$%!
So how much did you pay for that tool? I paid $5. 95 for the one I have. It is for a FfFfFf ooeurd,,, whew!,, cam belt in a front wheel drive,, mid 80's.
Warning... . if you use the chisel and hammer method OR the hammer screwdriver method, chances are you'll never be able to get a wrench on that nut again.
Of course those two methods DO qualify for the "Blunt Force Tuning" award... ... .
Well, I guess I cheated a little on this. I took my truck up to Piers last fall and had Nascar Mark tune and turn up the pump. Now I can turn all of the screws and he even welded an 8MM nut on the end of the fuel screw so I could turn it easy and fast!
Jay, It really makes it easy to adjust. Takes me about 2 minutes to adjust the fuel screw. Hell, takes much longer just to find the wrench to use! (actually I carry one in the truck all the time now)
Pull the boost line loose from the pump and spin it towards the back of the engine (watch the little washers). You can then use a 10mm 1/4 drive deep socket, a short extension and/or wobbler, and a 1/4 breaker to get the nut loose. Do the same for the full power screw. A better addition would be a rubberized boost line that would flew enough to get the socket in and lined up.
