I've seen some guys post about this. My truck surges on about a 2 second interval when idling. I've noticed when it is completely warm it stops.

Anyone defined this type of surge yet? I do have an EZ edge box and Airaid open filter.

Could be the Edge causing it. Or grid heaters. Hard to say. Try disconnecting the Edge and see if it still happens.

If I was to guess, I would say grid heaters cycling, theres quit a bit of load on those batteries giving the surge feeling. Also guessing again if your dial control is set on defrost causing the ac compressor to cycle may be something to do with it. Not for sure. JMO:D

Mine does it when it's cold. After about 5 minutes of idling cold, it will go into a lope mode. Lopes like an over-cammed gas engine. Once it warms up a little more, the lope stops and she smooths out. Or touching the brake pedal stops it and brings the idle back down to 750. I wonder if this is the "cut out 3 cylinders mode" that some have talked about? Some say it doesn't exist.

BTW, I have no Edge box or any other yet.

I noticed mine does it too, but only when it's very cold <32F and only when it goes to high-idle. I now believe its caused by insufficient damping in the high idle control algorithm. I am unconcerned.

my service tech tells me it is because when the dodge goes on to high idle when it is still cold(the engine) that the computer goes

into a mode where it runs the engine on three cylinders for a while, why i have no idea but mine will flucuate about 250-300 rpm when it is really cold out and less the warmer it is only does it on high idle though

dont know why it is its just that way??????

Mine does it too... only when it's cold, and I'm almost idling along, it's exactly the same feeling as Blakers said, having had a couple of over-cammed musclecars too many years ago... either push the fuel(gas) pedal a bit or gear down... good luck... Michael

Mine did not do it until I put on the EZ. Get lots of sub zero up here but truck runs fine soon as I start moving. Nothing to worry about. Have NEVER seen this 3 cyl thing & do not believe it exists.

Should have my Wabasto this week & then it will not matter as truck will NEVER be cold. Warm engine-heated seats, passing powerjokes & duramins LIFE IS GOOD

I see what was stated about above about the grid heaters... . however I find that mine does it when its really cold and starts at 1000 rpm instead of the regular 750... ... and every 4 or 5 seconds it surges a bit and if you listen really closely you can just barely hear the grid heater relay cycling on and off... ... so in my opinion I think it has to do with the load on the electrical system... just my 2 cents worth

Mine is nothing to do with the grid heaters or electical load. I can tell when the heaters come on. The loping is not an on and off thing corresponding to the heaters.

I wonder if it is cutting out three cylinders, does it cut out different ones and stagger them around so none get cold? I suppose one could tell if it cuts them out by checking the manifold temperature with a infrared thermometer.
