Are we being partial?????

The action taken by the moderator to ban Don M. from posting on oil related topics is WRONG! Sure Don has his opinions, but so does everyone else. I believe if you're going to ban 1 person, then it it like when you punish one kid for fighting.

Remember, it takes two to tango as they say. If you really want to be consistent, then you should also ban Sled Puller and Briar Hopper since they were involved in the heated exchange with Don M.

Just banning Don M. implies that the moderators have judged Don M. and found him guilty. I don't understand this logic nor have I seen the process of how this was done. Anyway you look at it, the method in which it was done was WRONG.

We don't need censorship UNLESS it involves it violates TDR posting policies.

I use Rotella T in the engine and Amsoil in the diffs so I'm pretty neutral when it comes to this debate. I'm not affliated nor do I sell dino or synthetic oil so my opinion is pretty objective IMHO.

My 2 cents. .

Briar Hopper – I briefly read a post you directed at me. I did not have time to read it carefully and respond. I guess I lost it when I came back. Please re-post, or tell me where it is, and I will respond.

Fine, Reddog1, here it is:

In my post above, I stated that I would rather be part of the solution. You interpreted it to read as if I were claiming to be part of the solution. I have my regrets about the conflict, and that was an expression of regret. When interpreted the way you seem to have read it, I can see why you would think the worst , and assume that I was arrogantly claiming to be part of the solution. No. Far from it.

This is an excellent example of how words and phrases get twisted, and part of the reason threads like this and others have spiraled into hard feelings.

I am not the only one that keeps emphasizing that the TDR members need to read and word their posts carefully, and give each other the benefit of the doubt !

You just stated in your last post above that you didn't read my deleted post very carefully, or something to that effect... .

Not everyone is a wordsmith, or even skilled at expressing themselves fluently in person or on paper. I do NOT look down on them for that!

It seems obvious that most of the few members who have attacked me in these forums, missed out on reading the early exchanges between myself and Don M. Long before the oil subject came up. It was NEVER about oil between me and him, but about defending against the way he twisted my words.

Again I'll ask that those of you that have issues over what has transpired here PLEASE contact the party or parties involved to find out what truly happened and what actions were taken. A lot of assumptions are being made here as to what actions have been taken and they are WRONG. If, once you have contacted those parties that you still have an issue with what actions were taken by the TDR management then email me directly at -- email address removed -- or Robin Patton at rpatton@ix.netcom.com and we can discuss them off line. We ARE NOT going to discuss any actions taken against any of the parties involved here as I said above, bringing it up in here serves no purpose. What I will say is that 4 different people received some form of disciplinary action over this and on both sides of the fence and that NO ONE was banned from the site.

Complaining to the moderators about a thread that you willingly clicked on and read through is plain dumb IMO, and puts them in a very difficult situation... .

I posted the following in the DTT Mods thread in support of S&J's comments. I thought it would also be appropriate here.

If I might, gentle readers, expand a little on this point?

Try as we might, we can never adequately express in one attempt, with words, the images and concepts we have in our minds.

We all need to remember this when responding to posts. A large part of discussion involves taking the time to learn what the other party is really trying to say. Another large part of discussion is listening to others and learning how they are 'interpreting' what we say. The last part involves remaining civil, for without civility, there can be only chaos.

We're all human and are prone to err. Let's give each other the benefit of doubt. Let's "take the high road".

There is a very big and real difference in posting your opinion in a thread, or trying to dominate the entire thread with dozens of posts, attacking everyone who did not agree with synthetic oils of an un-named brand. The TDR website isn't set up now and never has been for people like this to vent their anger toward a certain company, and do it in literally hundreds of posts throughout the site. No one would have been upset if that certain synthetic hater had simply posted his opinion and left it at that, but he chose to personally attack each and every post that was made. If he isn't mature enough to read the website bylaws and abide by them, then someone else must take the distasteful job of seeing that he does, like a kid getting spanked at school when they continually break the rules. The Amsoil hater offended many many people on the site intentionally, what did he think would eventually happen? I was very interested in the oil thread, but this one individual ruined it with scores and scores of posts, some of them double posts even before anyone else could get their 2cents worth in. I really don't like censorship, but in cases like this that will not solve themselves, it is a necessary evil. Hence, the rules of the game we agree to before we even start making posts on the TDR.
