Just an idea but is your throttle cable frayed by the APPS? It may be hanging up there and not releasing when you let off the throttle. Most likely this isnt the problem but worth mentioning as it did it to me.

just a thought if this is only happening when opperating temp. and after a shut down and restart MAYBE the ECM is getting the wrong engine temp. info. I'd verify the voltage at the temp. sensor. verify H2O temp. and match that to the proper voltage output. just my 2 cents

I'm in Buda just down the road from you and it seems like it's more of a challenge than it should be to find a well versed cummins shop in central Texas. I've had Austin Fuel Injection do a little work as well as a guy in Belton who is closing his shop. Malone Diesel out in Dripping Springs is a highly regarded Ford shop but works on all Diesels. Are there any other Diesel shops around that you've had any luck with.

i have not taken it to any diesel shops around me. the only one i know of is down the road and i have heard bad things about them from one of my friends that owns a shop. by the way he is the one that scanned the truck for me (very new snap-on scanner) for free so hes not looking for my bizzness just helping a friend. but i will look into the guys down south of austin and see what they say. thanks for the info.

i have not checked the readings on eather one of the temp senders but thats mite be it because it only will act like this when its warned up. thank i will let you know what i find out. i fill good about that one.

Het Grasshopper a friend of mine is having almost the same problem with his truck. Hard starting and sometimes it will run wild and he has to turn the key off then it will calm down to normal operation. Sounds to me like a ECM issue or a bad accellerator pedal. Not quite sure of any fixes attempted so far but he has the 90 horse inj and edge? box in it. Will get better knowledge this week!

well i checked the temp sending unit and it's giving a high reading at norm temp1. 462 at around 175* (if i remember right)

so i mite replace it just because. any how i drove it around untill it got warm and turned it off them a few min later restarted it and it did the same thing (quick revvs). so i am going to check the IAT by unpluging it and drive it around untill it gets warm then shut it down & restart it after afew min. good or dab idea?

Checking grounds is not enough

You need to check actual voltage on the grounds. If more than 50millivolts exists at your grounds. The sensors wont be able to vary the voltage accurately. You need to check ground voltages at all the sensors you can get to, including the ECM.

i will try that also. thanks

i called the dodge house today to see what they get for a ECM. are ya'll sitting down $1600. 59 REMAN (NOT NEW)

are they kidding that's a month and a hafts pay for me. so i asked what it would cost to check the ECM $99. 00 1hr labor. so at some point i will get it down to them to check out the ECM. if its bad could some one were would be the best and cheapest place to get one. just in case. thanks for all ya'll help it helps me deal with a little beater nowing i have others trying to help. god bless ya'll

www.ecudirect.com did mine. I sent it overnight, but they said mine was defective and couldn't be rebuilt, so they located a used one and rebuilt that one. The rebuilt cost $300 and they added $100 for the used one they rebuilt. They could have been scamming me about my original ECM being too far gone to rebuild, but at least it works now. They claim lifetime warranty. Mine was rebuilt 8/2006. It took 6 days total since they had to locate a rebuildable unit. Typical turnaround for them is supposed to be 2 days.

They also sell new ECM's for $400, but they will need to be programmed. I would give them a call.

I have a good ECM here that you can try. I'm in Laredo. I can ship it to you. P. M. Me your address. It's from my '98. 5 manual It'll work fine to test.

It's probably a loose wire in the 50 pin block going into the ECM. Make sure all those little wires are firmly in their sockets. My truck will jerk and shake hard enough to squeel tires if allowed to lug in 3rd gear... It's always done it, and I have replaced everything.

However, your problem is much more serious. Just email me, Private message me, or call me (956) 740-4015 and I can get this ECM out to you.

thanks for the offer i mite that you up on that. but let me take it to the shop han have it checked out. when you talk about this wire please tell me more. it funny that you say it will come loose if you let it jump and buck. because it started about three weekago when i went to my friends deer lease. very washboard road i want to say it started two days later.

What I did, was just got under the truck and pushed every wire that goes into the ECM. That solved some missing, and hesitation issues. (It was acting like a TPS was bad)

My truck, jerks even when everything is working perfect. If I let it lug in 3rd gear it starts bucking really hard. I've replaced everything, and it still does it. I don't know what it is, I just don't let it lug in gear anymore.

I'll ship it to you, just ship it back. Don't worry 'bout anything. Use it for a day, or two weeks, just ship it back when you are done.

I will try that in a few minutes after i write this. Also are you sure about letting me try your ECM Man those thing are very pricey. Let me do a bit more checking before i say o. k on your ECM (not that i don't appreciate your offer it just i am scared that my truck mite mess your up also. )(If that's possible?) I will let you know how it goes if this does not fix it or the other thing I am going to try I mite take you up on your offer. Just want to be sure before I get you to ship it to me. Once again thank you for the offer.

Looking at your first post,I'm betting You have a faulty ground

The intermitant fuel pump operation is possibly caused by a poor ground,The same fuel pump ground that runs the pump also is a ground for the ECM.

Grass Hopper:

You can take your truck to an Advance Auto Parts and they will put an OBDII scanner on your truck to read the ECM code. The PCM code is only a companion code saying you have code(s) stored in you ECM.

You can spend a lot of money chasing problems... the ECM code(s) can halp narrow down the issue.

Good luck,

Wiredawg

By any chance would you happen to know were that ground would be? i think i checked them all but???? Now i am not sure or does it use a ground from some thing other then the body?

It's kind of funny that you wrote that because TODAY it started acting up and it has not stopped also the lift pump does not buzz like it should before you start the truck. So maybe there working together to drive me crazy ;>)
