I have a friend that has a transplanted 5. 9 cummins into a 91 chevy crew cab dually. I believe this is a implement motor and I think it is similar to the first generation dodge cummins? He bought the truck already converted.
It runs ok and will get 14mpg pulling. The thing is it seems to be flat, no real torque curve, like maybe it is intended to run at a constant rpm, like for a irragation pump?
Does anyone know about these motors and what can be done to them for more power? It seems to run ok but labors to build speed on the higher end shifts. Also he doesn't want to kill the mileage as he puts quit a few miles on this truck and most of them are loaded miles.
It is like night and day differance when you compare it to my 97 whith a #11 tst plate, 3k govenor springs, straight through exaust, and K&N air filter. I really don't know anything about the earlier cummins motors, so I am not much help for him.
