I just got my vent kit installed the other day. I ran my DTE right to zero, had about 2 inches of fuel left in the tank, which is definitely a few gallons. From start to finish the install took about 2 hours and 3 Old Milwaukees. Happy to say the kit worked great, filled the truck all the way up in under 5 minutes. Big thanks to Dave for researching this kit and putting it all together for us.

Bert

I installed Dave's kit and filled up with 36 gals @ 2. 559/gal=$92. 24. This is the first time my tank has been full. In 12+ years my F250's 2 tanks never did get completely filled.

Thanks Dave, the instructions were great. I know you spent a lot of time and effort researching and purchasing this kit. I know I did trying to make my own. I just gave up and bought yours. I bought a 3/4" nylon barbed tee and tee'd into the existing vent like your original kit.

If anyone is thinking of doing this mod, DO IT! You won't be sorry.

I am going to put mine in tommorow, the only problem is i went to get epoxy and there are at least 5 different kinds. what kind of epoxy do i need? is there a special diesel resistant epoxy? don't even get me started on finding the 1-3/8 hole saw.

TIA

Epoxy??

Sears has the hole saw - Craftsman Tools

I just got back from another 4K mile round trip and the vent mod is a pleasure at every truck stop... and I fill up 2-3 times a day!! Please don't ask my fuel costs...

bjoints

Me too!!

Took truck in for a front end alignment(5 * dealership could not do it-thank god-) so i took it to a front specialist to have it done. Comes back , they can not do it because of exessive play in the ball joints. Milage you ask?? 36,202. I went straight to the dealer service dept. showed the yellow from the F. E. S. Appointment next wedsday. Thank you Dodge engineering for the heavy duty b/j's. No charge by the way. I am also asking for new tires due to cupping. Will

see what happens. :-{} :-{}

yeah that's what i ended up getting. good to know it works. i just got plain clear gel, water, fuel ,oil resistant epoxy from NAPA. i hope it works.

thanks

is there a special diesel resistant epoxy?

The epoxy doesn't come in contact with diesel fuel. It is only there to lock the threads on the bulkhead fitting. You should install the nut on the outside of the tank and lock the threads with the epoxy. Any epoxy that comes as 2 parts you have to mix should work.

Vent Kit Installation

David,

I ordered your kit 04/2005 and on last Tuesday night, finally had the time to perform the upgrade. Yes, I know it took me over a year to do it but I did it. During the installation, it states to make sure the bulkhead fitting is tight, well, I overtightened it and broke it. At the same time, my heart fell to my stomach! That's my freak out moment and when I attempted to call you and e-mail you. You did call me back in first thing in the morning and offered to send me a replacement part. I received it the next day, installed it and everything went well. Total job time was close to five hours (1 hour to remove the fuel lines) but I took my time.

First, I want to say, "Thank you" for really taking the time to call me back and be on-top of my dilemma.

Second, thanks for making the kit. I filled up with 39 gallons without any leaks.

Anyways, I really appreciate it.

-Andre.

vent kit

can I buy this kit somplace? I have clicked on all of the links that I can find for the sale of this kit & all of them come up not found. I would like to have this mod done in the next few days beacuse I am leaving on a long trip & this would save me alot of time.

I ordered one. (finally) No telling when I'll get it in though.....

Looks like tonight's the night. I had my driveshaft out to replace all the u joints and before putting it back in, I looked at the tank and figured the extra space would be handy. Of course I have about 1/3 of a tank so it was a bit heavy, but not a big deal. I got it out and cleaned up, but dropped my light and had to stop and sweep glass. #@$%! I'll finish up tomorrow. I'm thinking I'll have to get some fuel out to make it light enough to get back in.

Am I the only one wondering what all the sheetmetal on the side of the tank is for? Mine had lots of crap tucked into it-- Leaves, mud, etc. I pulled it off and I don't think it's gona make it back on again.

I ve seen two plastic tanks get ripped/cut open. Maybe that sheetmetal might be there for a reason. Dont know if it would stop your driveline from tearing through the plastic, but it might help on someother stuff.

The last one i saw the parking cable let loose and put a hole in the tank.

It's all back together. I put the 15 gallons back in (without the brown flowing "marbles" of dirt and moisture) and drove about 16 miles (20 at the most) and put in 30 gallons. :eek:Oo.

Very nice mod. Thank you ;)

I told David that removing the drive shaft was the only thing that I didn't do to mine and I wish I had done so.
