I am getting ready to go from 30# to 60# valve springs to support my install of a pak-brake. In my research I noted this would be a good time to change out the valve seals. I am told that they have changed the style of the seal and the new style has a mushroom look to it. Is this a better produce?. Will they fit my 95 head without having to do machine work and can I find the older type out there if I don't want to remove the head. I went to the ******* and the valve seal part # is 4429097-AB. Did not have in stock and could not granranteeeeee that it would be the old style. The -AB makes me think it is the newer one and and an -AA would be the old kind. I plan to visit the cummins part store tomorrow. Could you all shed some light on this subject? Thanks, Ken

I was out of town for 4 weeks so i would like to bring this seal question up front again. I went to the cummins part counter today and they listed two Seal, valve stem #'s. 3901097 and 3921640. If I order the wrong ones then they tell me I will have to pay a restock fee! Not cool... so I told them I will research some more and will come back. Does anyone out there know the correct part # for the OLD stile seals??

Send TDR member mwilson a Private Message asking your question and include the serial number shown on the data plate on your engine. When he has the time, he should be able to look up the correct part number, giving you the approximate cost and the availability of the part from the Cummins warehouse.

With the engine SN in hand your Cummins parts place should be able to do the same thing. At every Cummins counter I have been to the first thing they ask for is the ESN.

There is a parts topic in Cummins regarding valve seals, going to tackle it tonight as he has sent me the ESN. As soon as I finish my evening orders I am going back into Quickserve and get this resolved for him.

OK, here is what I have found out so far... .

3901097 supercedes to 3921640 so I don't understand why your Cummins dealer didn't catch that.

The cut-off was '91 on the old style head from what I found so order the 3921640 seals, it now works for both intake and exhaust from what I am seeing.

Again, I want to thank you and this great TDR site for your help. I will spend some $ tomorrow at the cummins part counter now that i am armed with the correct part number. I hope this info will help others that follow behind me when they upgrade their 2nd gen's with an exhaust brake. Ken.
