engine heater question

ok, i've searched, read, and even called pdr and talked to mark but i still have a question that is un-awnserd, can the pump be 180 degrees off?, my drive gear split in two so i replaced the gear, while the motor was at TDC, we put the pump back in and lined up the the two "zero's" on the pump drive gear with the single tick mark on the cam gear, while the pump was out it was spun over w/o a gear on it because we were worried that the gear breaking damaged the pump, to tell the truth i dont know how many times it was spun over, is it a possibility that there is a timing issue?, the truck now cranks w/o any fire at all, also when trying to time the pump using the dial indicator after getting our baseline and resetting the preload too two mil the turning the engine clockwise to get my reading of what my pump is timed at the indicator zero'd out instead of gaining, any ideas?

I think you are using the wrong reference marks on the gears. The O should line up with a C (or maybe and E, I forget and don't have the docs in front of me). It does not matter how many times you've spun the engine or the pump around. All that matters is that the O and the C mesh together.

Good man, rlyons. Stoneage, Brian is right on, you can't install the pump 180* out. It will only go on one way. But as you've learned, you can install the pump gear wrong .

yep thats what i get for doing my own thinking, again thanks alot she started up with the great puff of black smoke from the stack, it made my day i've been waiting 2. 5 weeks for this, i'm glad i dident have any pump damage after the hit it took from the gear, i'll take some pics of the gear, my buddies dad's best friend has been a cummins tech for years (just retierd last month) but my buddy took the gear out to him to look at and he was shocked at how it broke, again thanks again this made my day
