If the lack of a certain part gets to be a real issue, they will pull them from new engine production.
There are always two inbound streams of parts to an OEM, production parts and replacement parts.
With the Cummins market penetration into China and the resulting demand for engines over there it is taking more production parts to assemble the engines which disrupts the balance between the two streams.
Bosch will commit to build so many injectors in a certain period of time per the contract they and Cummins agree to.
If Cummins sends too many to production, there are not enough left to send out for replacement parts.
Even though this injector is Reman not enough cores are coming back in to be rebuilt so the Reman injector part number needs to be "seeded".
That means they will toss a bunch of new injectors out as a Reman part number to create more inbound cores.
If new injectors are in short supply due to high production demands they will be reluctant to release any to "reseed" the program.
When I get a few extra minutes this evening I will give a more detailed explanation of how this works.
Mike.
