Injector Install - Freak Accident?

I went ahead and installed the 275 Injectors and as I was finishing, I remembered that I forgot to oil #2s rubber seal. Long story short I started to pry back on the transfer line and the end of the screwdriver (Stanley crap) broke off.

Since I only found a sliver of metal that to me looked like only half of the 3/16 piece that broke of is:

Is there any way that the tip did a back flip onto the top of the head? I looked all over with a magnet and there was no sign of this piece. I finally had to give up my search and put the valve cover back on. I started it up and it ran like a champ.

Hopefully it flew out and I just can't find it. Would this cause severe damage to my engine if it did make it's way in there? I'll have to admit I'm a little worried.

Anyway,

I just wanted to thank everyone for their help. Oh, and yes I did need to replace the intake horn gasket(but that's a whole other story).

Thanks again,

Johnny

If it fell anywhere where it would get sucked into a cylinder, it would have most likeley happened by now, so you should be fine. If it fell down an oil passage, it is just sitting in the pan where it will cause no harm. The oil pickup has a strainer, so again, not to worry

do you think it went inside the head beside, or even inside the crossover tube? or even flipped inside the fuel line you were prying against?

if it went inside either of the lines then you would possibly be starving that injector of fuel, with the partial blockage.

I am not sure where it could go if it made its way in between the crossover tube and the passage, possibly down to the pan as EM said, or just laying in there forever... . since I have never had one of these heads out, I dont know where those passages go.

next time you take it apart just take the bolts out of the elbow and not remove it all together. with them loosened you can move it forward enough to get the tube broke loose and out of the way. and hopefully not damage the gasket. :D also loosen all the retainers for the lines and they will move out of the way rather than prying on them and bending them. it makes it go back together easier if the line is just floated out of the way and not bent to a different shape. :D
