injector pump mechanics

Can anyone recommend a good place to get my pump rebuilt locally (Charlotte, NC)?

Is there any special tools I need to R&R my pump? I'm not a diesel mechanic, but I'm not scared to do it(I do all my race car work). Any tips or things to look out for?
What should it cost for a pump rebuild?
What is spill port timing - how do I check/adjust it?
I've got the big blue manual from Chrysler, but I can't find spill port timing in it.

I'M SCARED!

The only reason I didn't reply is that I've had all of my engine work done by Ted Jannetty @ JRE in Connecticut. I realize it's a ways from NC but it's even further from Nashville, Tn. I thought it was worth the drive to have my pump done right and accurately timed (1. 35mm) by JRE (203)753-7223. Just my opinion... ...

TDCanuk! I just read your siganture and it's not true! I was issued a ticket just last night on my way home for 64 MPH in a 50 in the mighty Cummins. He didn't buy the line when I told him, "I'm not in a hurry & beside Diesels are slow!"

All the way to Connecticut, too? those folks at JRE DO KNOW JACK about those VE44's.
For you guys and gals looking for an injection shop in your area, and don't have a clue, look in your yellow pages, call and set up a visit. Introduce yourself, check out the facility, can they do the COMPLETE job there? How are their personnel, are they rushed? ask your questions, OBSERVE, LISTEN.
Are they experienced with your engine, pump, and truck? Do they bench set and flow there?
Likely as not they won't rebuild YOUR pump, as they would refit a newly rebuilt one. (saves downtime on your truck)
Ask about their warrantee.
Lastly, do they talk the "turning up" talk? How would they? What is your comfort factor with all of this?
Start calling and visiting, and remember these people are in business, you are the customer seeking the place to do business, the quality shops will stand out by their patience and knowledge.
