2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Clear cab lights for 2nd gen?

I'm toying around with the idea of putting larger injectors on my truck.

The engine is stock other than the Smarty. I don't have plans for a new turbo (at this point anyhow).

What is considered the largest injector to run with stock motor and turbo, keeping EGTs reasonable and not compromising fuel mileage or engine life ... using the truck to tow a trailer?

I had in mind the Mach 1. 6s or 2s. Sound ok? Any other good brands I should look into?

Or instead of the injectors, should I look into a fueling box for my truck??

I did do a search on here and didn't come up with a whole lot, though perhaps I didn't search for the right thing?

I'm running the Smarty and F1 Mach 1. 6 injectors. This provides more than enough power for on-ramp and passing manuevers, and towing my 33-ft 5vr. I can easily make too much smoke if I get heavy on the throttle too early (low rpm) and could use more turbo on the top end - still have to drive by the pyro when towing up a grade.

With these injectors, I normally run the Smarty on 7 in hot weather, 8 in cold weather, and 3 when towing. This setup provides a little more fuel than I can efficiently use (smoke-free) and more than I can effectively use under heavy load (EGT) and almost enough for the daily romp :D

I average 19. 5 mpg on my commute and 12. 0 mpg on the 3500-mile towing trip I did this month. (6-speed, 3:55 R&P, 265x75x16 tires, no lift - drive like a granny most of the time ;))

Like the man said, look no further than F1 Mach injectors.

Are the Mach 2s a bit too large for the stock turbo?

Is a fueling box basically going to do the same as larger injectors?... basically which would be a better choice?

I am use Mach 1's and I am pretty sure I am getting better fuel mileage. I am talking at least 1 MPG city, but I really have not run enough tanks to be absolutely sure.

The set-up that was recommended to me was Mach 2's and a Dodgezilla. I believe most would recommend 1. 6's for a stock turbo. With my set-up (TST + Smarty) I can max out the EGT and spin my turbo off the RPM map. If I so desire and with not too much effort. I would guess that I am adding about 120Hp which is pretty close to Mach 2's.

I am currently running Dynomite Diesels 90hp Injectors in my Megacab and love them. I have gained 3mpg on the overhead display. The truck was only getting 14mpg before I had the injectors put in ,and now it gets 17mpg! The truck dynoed at 347hp at the rear wheels with just the injectors.

first, the overhead computer will go TOTALLY out of control with power mods. it still figures your fuel based on factory specs for the amount of fuel being shot into the cylinder. my overhead read 21. 7 on my last trip towing. it was hand calculated at 11. 8...

second, i like to mention the option of turning the power on/off. a box allows selection of power levels for differing scenarios while injectors are there for good. small sticks will probably be fine all the time, but remember that towing will require some gauge studying until you see how hot the EGT gets loaded uphill...

if you don't have an upgraded air filter, that would be another suggestion to maximize your air flow. better drop in filter or BHAF at the low end (cost wise) or a full on system from afe, scotty, etc

What I was trying to convey in my description is that Mach 1. 6 will provide more fuel than an HX-35 can supply air to burn clean and not overheat the exhaust. I had a Comp before I got the Smarty and levels 4 & 5 were pretty much useless for more than a few seconds of smoke-making. I'm all for more power, so I'll need a bigger turbo before adding any more fuel than I already have.

I Comp or TST PM3 will give all the fuel you can use (and then some) and provide adjustability, and depending on what model you choose, possibly protection modes as well. Those are all good arguements for going the electronics route. On the other hand , your VP-44 might not appreciate the tampering. There are pros and cons to all power enhancements.

If you're going to add more than a 100 horsepower, you need to plan on a fuel pump, exhaust, intake, turbo... and stuff.

Be honest with yourself about how you use the truck or what you really want, that will help the most to make the best decision. To answer your original question, F1 Mach 1. 6 will put you at the useful limit.

Have fun in your quest.

Nate, get the 1. 6 Mach's, they are awesome for towing, and make great power for buzzing the tires, and get better than stock mileage, and EGT's are fine, even up a grade with my 10K trailer. I tried the fueling box with stock sticks, it was OK but nowhere near what the injectors do. Idle is smooooooth also!!!! I have a Smarty also, haven't got a chance to try it yet. If you can wait till Oct, I will be back and take you for a lap in mine :D If you want I will help you put em in, piece of cake ;)

As for the mods mentions, I have a straight pipe exhaust, though it's the stock size, 3"? (I can't remember off hand). I have the stock air box, those I swiss cheesed it.

I'd love to put a big turbo, huge sticks, etc but I am just an E4 in the USAF, so I don't have a whole lot of extra $$$.

I pulled a sled not that long ago, and the truck did ok, had good traction but the motor just wasn't there. Trans shifted from 2nd to 1st, back to 2nd... a few times even.

I might end up waiting on injectors until I get the transmission reworked. I'm sure Smarty + Mach 1. 6s will kill it.

Are used injectors ok to buy? Like let's say I'd find a set on eBay or here, so they have a "service life" on them?

Nate, how do you afford diesel being in the AF? I retired out of there in 03. The only used injectors I would buy is the Mach's, and from a TDR member only. I MIGHT want to up mine to 4's, make you a good deal on the 1. 6's if I do, they have 3K on them. :D

Best towing combo I've ever had & i've tried many, was 90hp injectors, edge comp, superchips 1. 0, stock hx35. The smarty will be even better for towing with some sticks. I wouldn't go any bigger than 90hp with stock turbo. egt's will be borderline with 90's. I've still got the 90's if you want to try them.

Smoke

I'm running Mach 1. 6's w/Edge EZ,1800# on my back 24/7,regeared to 3. 73's,and I can smoke up the tailgaters when I bog the motor. I have to physically downshift the transmission to second as it'll want to lug in third as it has so much low end grunt. I'm envious of you manual transmission guys. Smoke to me is just money out the tailpipe.

The Bosch RV injectors give around 35-50 hp depending on which engine, MT, AT, or HO, about 1. 5 mpg, and are cheap, $275 a set. Bigger injectors are fine, but look to a bigger turbo, clutch, or automatic trans work when you start piling up mods.

Where can those be purchased for $275? Also, around how much is the labor charge normally for installing them?

They are not hard to install yourself, just get some one to help you who has done it a couple of times.
