05 2500 automatic 4x4 3. 73 gears, box stock (don't know why my truck info won't come up automatically but here it is) Truck has 505xx miles and about 200 miles on a dealer transmission rebuild, run Diesel Kleen in the fuel.



Yesterday I headed into town, about a 25-30 mile drive. Truck had been sitting for a little over a month while I was across country but it started normally, all gauges looked good and no strange noises or vibrations and ran as good as it always does. The liar on the roof said 22 mpg :-laf so all was normal. Truck was unloaded.



I got to the 2 lane blacktop going into town (25-30 miles so truck was well warmed up) and waited a bit as traffic was a bit heavy, finally saw an opening and pulled out quickly. Traffic was coming up on me so I put it to the floor, which it has handled before w/o a problem but with some smoke. However this time as the rpm got up and speed was about 45-50 I felt/heard a tapping sound so I let off the fuel and it all smoothed out and felt back to normal. While in town I gave it some good launches and after I left town I stopped, lauched to about 60 mph about half a dozen times with no repeat of the tapping and minimal smoke.



Sticking injector???? Trans clutches breaking in and chattering? Ideas?
 
I dont know about the 05 but the 03 turns off the pilot injection once the rpms get so high maybe thats what you heard if you really got on it.
 
I was pulling our TT and spanking a Durapad going up Snoqualmie pass when my truck started ticking or knocking as you describe. I could even feel it in the go pedal. After getting over the top of the hill and letting off on the accelerator, the knock was gone. I have never heard it since and that was 2 years ago.
 
Jakprince - I don't think the rpm were any higher than past events and certainly not higher that any later that day. Who knows. :confused:



Prairie Dog - Here's hoping we both just had a fluke happen. :D
