I Wouldn't be a bit Surprised.....
... If the 25 mpg figures are possible, especially on the 3/4 ton trucks with good tires and an injection pump that is "right on".
I keep a running log of all my fuel fills - cost, gallons, miles between tanks, etc. - and through end of November my Excel spreadsheet shows 20 fillups in "empty" condition for a total of 516. 86 gallons, total mileage of 10,232. This is an average of 19. 8 mpg, with a lot of short trips. I normally drive a lot more but health problems this year kept me off the road quite a bit. Highway mileage is about 21 mpg at 70 unloaded, 22 and change at 65 unloaded. Haven't been able to keep it at 55 long enough for meaningful computations...
Interesting note: For that 20 tanks, the standard deviation of the economies for each tank is only 0. 7 mpg! In other words, the truck gets very consistent mileage regardless of how I drive it back and forth to work. On my gassers, the SD is normally around 3-5 mpg so I am pretty pleased with the consistency of the CTD.
It is also interesting to see the swing in mpg for ostensibly identical trucks as reported on TDR. Looks like the pump timing must be more varied than we would have suspected. Not much else that could explain the variation without attendant engine problems...
