It seems to me that the turbo would be to big for the amount of fuel supplied. If the turbo never really spools up then a smaller turbo with the same amount of fuel lit-up would actually flow more air.

This is what I was getting at too but I didn't think running empty it would be too bad. Maybe it would be. Let's clear something up.

Travis,

When do you see 1300? Daily driving and it creeps up to 1300 while driving non-agressively around town? or when you flat foot it or are driving hard and it gets over 1300? If you flat foot it does it climb to over 1300 and then fall off once the turbo gets going?

If you go to a smaller turbo, say another 62, I would keep the #8 to start with and maybe move it back if you need to but I would not be too concerned with going to a smaller plate at this point.

OK well first things first just crusing it will be at like 900 then flat footing it the pyro goes to 1300 and if i dont get off it, it will keep going (I pegged it once damn civic lol). Yea so anyways the turbo will ped my 30 psi boost gauge like nothing so i dont think the turbo is too badly underfueled. And it does sometimes creap up on me and scare me going up hills UNLOADED. I think when I modified it I did something wrong because the egt's are down right redicolous. I hated that damn 24 valve but I must admit it would kick this trucks behind twice over in performance, with HALF the fuel and EGT's.

I have what you see in my sig and my egt's hit about 700 - 800 cruising at 70mph in 95 degree temps. I believe from what you are saying that a slightly smaller turbo and maybe slide the plate back some should help

Well it's not really half the fuel you have to remember the 24v started out with 75 more HP from the factory which is almost half again what your truck you have now had from the factory. The plate you put in probably didn't even bring it up to the HP that the 24v had stock.

Oh very true, I didnt think about that but I still find it hard to believe that my 24 valve had that much power and yet I couldnt if I wanted to get the EGT's above 1200*. And now in this truck I cant get them to stay under 1300* when I get on it. It just doesnt make sense.

The 370's are your problem. No turbo can keep them cool because the fact that they dump so much fuel with the wrong spray angle. The only way to solve that is to put in marine pistons, not even close to worth it!

The 24v's have better fuel atomization with their injectors because they have more holes in the tip and the way the injection system is set up. They have actual injectors, the 12v's are more like nozzles that just dump the fuel in. The 24v's also have better head flow keeping the EGT's down even further.

This is not true. I agree they are not the best option available but to say that no turbo can keep them cool is incorrect.

Agreed. This is certainly a big part of why the 24v's have better EGT control.

I missed this earlier but I think it would help to know what your peak boost is. Even though these S300 variants have proven to be durable a higher boost levels, more is not necessarily better as far as the performance of the truck is concerned. Just a thought.

I have never seen a single turbo keep them cool, only twins with less than 500 HP and an HX35 as the primary to keep low end boost there. And you can definitely only tow heavy with twins with 370's, no single will keep you cool there.

I told him this as well on the phone the other day. He was suppose to call me yesterday to follow up but never did. I told him to re-check his timing and get a better boost gauge to know what it's really putting out.

I setup a truck last year with a 911 pump tweaked by me, 370's and a SPS 64. Max EGT's were like 1150... ... with you foot on the floor forever.

Send Jim a PM and talk to him. He has tried so many combinations of things that if he can't get you straightened out... no one can!
