Hi there you 1st Gen owners. I have a friend with a 93 1 ton 4X4. He asked what(from whom) injectors to get to improve performance. What do you do with the pump on these? I volunteered you guys for an information source. Hope that you can give me a few clues to pass on to him.

Thanks lots
Bob Berends

I got my "powerwagon injectors" from Tim at City Diesel for about $35 per, really woke the truck up. I did nothing to the pump, pumps on these rigs are pushing about all they can, without sacrificing some measure of reliability, in stock form... Don't have the phone # handy, but I'm sure someone does...

you can get the same bosch injectors through BD(worth 25-30hp) and also get the Lucas injectors(around 50hp) from them also.

You can reach Tim at City Diesel at 1-800-950-2489.

I got mine a couple of months ago but have not installed them yet. Also get him to send the small parts kit that contains all the sealing washers so that you will have everything you need. This bit of advice applies no matter who you buy them from.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the phone numbers and the advice for my friend. I will pass this along for his future bombing.

DO the above comments also apply to the '89-early '91 Cummins - or do they require different injectors for added performance?

ALSO, what price range are we talking here for a complete set?

The Lucas injectors are the ones you want for the 89-91 non intercooled. Powerwagons make less power than stock on the non intercooled trucks.

DERN - I shoulda been more specific, but in this case, there may not be enough similar setups like mine in this group to provide an answer - you see, *I* have added the Banks intercooler, so don't know if that alone places me in the later Cummins ('91. 5-'93), or still in the early configuration...

Guess a call to one of the suppliers is in order...

It is not the intercooler but the head. The non-intercooled trucks have 9 mm tips on the injectors where as the intercooled trucks have 7 mm tips. This was to strengthen the head from cracking. You will need to get 'reducers' to use any of the injectors. The Power Wagons will NOT give you ANY performance gain. You will actually loose power compared to stock. The Lucas/Prince of Darkness/Old Blue Specials would be the only performance increase choice currently available.

The power is great. I've adjusted the pump about 1. 5 to 1. 75 turns. The heat is about 950 degress max pre turbo. I am trying to find a 14 cm2 housing for it but the A/C went and I need that more than I need the power. The rest of the mods are in my signature. If you want more specifics I'd be happy to give them.

MATT - thanks for info - since you have the same Banks stuff I have, and are using the Lucas injectors, what do you think of the power gain, and have you done any pump adjustment/mods?

Matt,Or anyone else running the lucas injectors, How much boost are you getting out of your current combination?

Right now I'm getting 22-23 psi or so. I have it turned back from my first 'guess' at the fuel screw. The max I can get is 30 psi. I've got a lot of black smoke that I still need to adjust out but I am only getting 950 degrees at WOT in 5th. I am going to adjust this when it gets warmer so I can get max power without melt down when towing. I would also like to get a 14 cm2 housing.

MATT - the setup you are shooting for looks pretty much like my ultimate plan - larger injectors and the 14cm housing - with max boost at 30lbs. This is to be primarily used in heavy pulling situations loaded, and on long steep grades. Naturally, it will be expected to function properly empty, and around town as well.

I'm laying the groundwork for transmission/TC upgrades as well, and have just finished beefing up my cooling system - and have both boost and pyro guages installed, and will soon be installing a transmission heat guage as well as the deeper cast aluminum transmission pan.

If anyone sees potential problems with this, comments would be appreciated.
