Sorry for not posting this earlyer, just moved, and got comp running.

If you are looking for a key to the software, then do you have a copy?

I talked with a rep at a Cummins Dealer. he told me some of the things we are wanting o do can be done. but warned me that the Chrysler computer is smaller than those on other 5. 9 applications.

so some of the features will not work. he printed out the manual for the insite 5. 0 software for me to read up on. I also have been in contact with a guy that worked for hypertech. as in the performance chip company. he is working on some leads to get us the j1939 converters for a better price.

what we need to do is get a comp. off a yard truck or something, to play with. or go buy one at the parts counter and not give them the core back.

EagleEye. the comps will work on either j1708 (read only)

or to write to them you need J1939.

what you have done is convert J1537 to 1708 to rs232. to get it to interface with your laptop.

Keep us posted...

Todd T... Keep us informed with the status. I have checked with Dearborne Group, IXXAT, and a couple others in Germany... all are alot more expensive than the AutoTap, but cheaper than the Cummins. I thought the QuickCheck II was j1939, but havn't found any documentation as of yet (I did pull the specs for the chips though, and the serial side is Read Only, the other comes back as a CAN Controller, dunno if j1939 yet). Regardless, it won't write.

Anyone out there with info on the Insite Pro software... feel free to chime in. I would like to know about what it CAN and CAN'T do... especially in our application. ;) ;) ;)

BigCarl... any updates?

Hey guys, I wonder if Marco hasn't already invented this wheel since he's been reconfiguring the ECM for a while now and plans to sell ECM's with 4 separate programs on board? I wonder if he'd lend some expertise?

good for us, bad for Marco...

Well the thing is that, this would probly be an alternate to Marco's ECM. That would be taking business away from him, and I know that I might "help as much as possible, with out helping at all... " if I were him. I wish he would chime in here.

Todd T,

Is there a way you could get a copy of that for me? I LOVE reading about anything to do with diesels, more so when it has to do with my Cummins. E-mail, US mail, photo copy, I don't care. Please let me know.

AJB

If I was you I wouldn't get too excited about that thing.

Let's analyze a little deeper what you want to do with that software.

Let's say you've found the password you need to download a new file into the ECM.

Now what? What/which file will you download now? Where will you get that file from? Consider that the only way you have is to take another Cummins file and download it into the ECM.

Let's say you have such a file. Maybe you will get a little more power but all the other stuff like RPM, timing, just to mention a few, will be stock (Cummins) settings.

Is such a file worth the trouble you're planning to go through?

Sure each one will give his own answer to that question, personally I felt NOT.

Another consideration is that you'll have to use Cummins proprietair software to do your job. Others have done it and got into trouble with Cummins and the law... .

So if you really plan to work on such a system, close your mouth and do it UNDERGROUND!

BTW. What I'm doing is completly different! I swap the stock memory chip inside the ECM with another one and I use homebrewed files to modify the settings in the ECM...

Questions?

Marco

is the pot as black as a kettle?

I have read about how I think it was maybe TST that got into trouble for doing this right? Or there was something like this with the old 12 valves right? Maybe not an ECM, but something.

I plan to buy one of your ECM's when they get out, but am still courious about this thing. But how are your ECM's not illeagal like the other people who got in trouble?

Just a question, not a flame. From what I have read, you are like a god on these fourms.

AJB

To answer your question in a few lines.

I don't use Cummins software to do my thing!

I use licensed and or home made software. I use homebrewed files to modify the ECM's settings. I don't use any copyrighted "password" (algorythm) to gain access to the ECM.

Marco.

Re: Big Brother Is Watching

i don't remember being asked for my VIN, Maybe its something new?

For those that doubt, take a look at the form for TDR subscriptions. Why do you think a VIN # is asked for?

I'm sure its for "Marketing Purposes Only" !!

heck yeah... . I love tinkering!

when we access the maps, it should be possible to see which ones are used for normal driving/towing. Then we can just modify the parameters of those maps and... .

the Cyber Cops can try and get me... . but I will not be making any money from this..... where is the proof other than hearsay in this board :D

the quick itialan fox jumped over the lazy slow cummins corp...

You sly fox Marco. So then it's nothing illeagal about it then is there. For your case at least. #ad

Tow,

The VIN thing must be new, because I had to give mine. Wish I could have gotten around this.

Diesel Freak,

I think you'll be getting an e-mail real soon from someone with a bug. Not the BOMB bug, but a bad bug. Till then, Play ball.

AJB

Thats too bad that people...

Thats too bad that people (corporate or private) would do crap like that (bugs) but in todays world, I guess anythings possible.

Anything can be done with persistence, and from what I see, there are a helluva lotta persistent CTD owners out there. This will work, just may take time. I feel we're going down a good path here, may be the wrong direction, but gotta try anyway!

TxDieselKid, send me an e-mail, yours is turned off via TDR.

Got my firewall CRANKED DOWN!!! :p :p :p

I think I'll walk on eggshells in the cyber world for awhile... ;)

  OH NO, NOT A BUG!

Believe me I can take care of that... . someone tried to end me an executable yesterday..... it is dead

If anyone tries to send me a nastygram... well, turnaround is fair play, SO DO NOT TRY IT!

Marco...Oh Marco...

Marco, I sent you an e-mail a bit back... was wondering if you got it???

Just waiting for a reply.

Yes I got your Mail.

Sorry, been busy playing with the files...

What kinda help do you think I could provide?

You think that I own, or have owned the Cummins software.

That's NOT!

Everything I've ever done was done with HOMEMADE

Software. I've gained access to the ECM but have never developed the stuff needed to download new files into it.

Reason for this is explained in a previous MSG.

I still think you don't have the complete picture of what you want to do. One thing is to tinker and play with some stuff. A completly different story is to dedicate several xxxx hours for R&D to such a thing.

Sure, what you want to do, CAN be done, but like most things it's not going to be simple.

Maybe I'm getting boring but let me ask that question again.

Is it worth the trouble?

Even if you'll gain access to the ECM will you then be able to find the maps you need to play with?

Will you then be able to modify them in order to obtain what you want???

It's worth a try.

well, here is a little info

The program in the ECM is most likely NOT encrypted... this is because all encryption algorithms are federally registered with the NCIC, NSA, DOD, and a few others. This is most likely too big of a PITA for cummins to worry about.

The program is probably enciphered. Even easier, it may be just a bit shift.

Marco is correct... . getting the "cummins software" is the hard way. All we have to do is read the information contained in the ECM, the rest is just simple programming..... no hacking involved.

The information is also most likely 8 bit... . 16, or 32 bit is just too bulky to transfer information fast enough.
