I have been wanting more fuel filtration for a while now. I finally decided to go with a GDP kit underhood for the 2 micron filtration and will add a BF1212 fuel/water sep between the tank and the OE filter bowl soon.

I am using a mostly GDP MK-2 + Big Line kit. I opted not to use the supplied fleetguard, or fleetguard filter base. I wanted to use the Cat 2 Micron filter and already had a Baldwin Filter base. Otherwise the kit is GDP. I am very impressed with this kit, all the fittings and parts are top quality, not to mention they will certainly reduce restriction.

Here is the intake horn pre install.

Here is the GDP kit, with all my additions.

Here is the assembled filter base and mount.

And the final install...

I also changed the OE filter today. I am going to continue to use the Baldwin PF7977 in the OE location. It has excellent ratings for dirt and water removal.

In order to prime the new system and to clean out the rubber line I left the line disconnected from the CP3 and bump the starter and let the fuel pump run until fuel came out the hose. The OEM In-Tank lift pump may not have the most pressure. . but WOW it moves some volume. After this it started on the first crank.

I am just waiting on the local machine shop to cut me a piece of steel for my bracket to mount the BF1212, then it will go on. I am hoping to install in on Sunday. I will update with pics then.

So in the end I will have a 20 micron fuel/water sep rated for 90%+ free and emulsified water removal, a 5 micron OE fuel/water sep rated for 90%+ free and emulsified water removal, and a 2 micron fuel filter.

Looks S-H-W-E-E-T!
I just installed a Glacier 2mic kit with the big lines on mine. I'm just staying with the stocker 7 mic and then the 2 mic.

I'm kind of partial to the OEM stuff, so my only suggestion would be to run the stock 7 micron as it does give better water stripping than a 5 micron. Either way you have a great set up for keeping the fuel system happy for many miles.

Looks good!

I've been quite happy with the Frantz sub-micron fuel filter I have on my truck - it too works with the OEM filter, rather than replacing it. Quite cheap and easy to service - but pretty restrictive down at it's filtration level, and 2nd generation trucks need an upgraded LP setup to use one safely without starving the VP-44 - pretty easy to mount:

And one nice feature, is the ability to visually check the filter top surface for whatever crud it's caught - such as this early failure warning that my VP-44 brass advance cylinder was on it's way out, as displayed by the multitude of tiny brass specks:

Will the Cat 2mic filter fit on the GDP filter base, or only on the Baldwin which you installed??

Yes it will fit on the GDP one as well.

I was under the impression the Baldwin was better at water stripping, but I have requested the Fleetguard spec sheet.

Sag2, With my stock filtration system, do you suggest the OEM 7 mic filter or the Baldwin 5 mic filter?

From what I have found the Baldwin is the best. 97-99% free water and 92-95% emulsified.

The Baldwin is rated 98-99% free water and 92-95% emulsified, and the OEM is 95% emulsified and 98% free, so they are equivalent. I have 4 more PF7977's so will use them, plus I am adding another fuel/water sep. The only issue is that Baldwin may give that info on multipass ratings, but still I would run the baldwin over the stock... remember Bosch wants 2 microns, not 7.

Must be nice not to have the APPS. Lucky.

Yeah, I got lucky there.

I got some free time and got the Baldwin Fuel/Water sep on today.

I had a bracket made that bolted to the bottom of the back bolts for the front seat. I had to replace the OE bolts with ones that had more thread. I then bolted the Baldwin filter base to the bracket and ran the plumbing. I used 3/8 compression fittings on the OEM steel line. Everything went together real smooth. I did have to take the NPT fittings from the compression fitting to the push-lok apart and reseal with thread seal tape due to a small fuel leak. But all is well now.

The new 2 mic filter is installed inbetween the stock filter and the CP3. I use the water sep. /stock filter instead of a remote water sep. Easy to make simple bracket, it attaches to engine front gear case below the CP3. I know it cant be seen in pic though. The new CAT filter can be easily reached from below. I wanted the filter close to engine for some heat in the winter time. I have heard of some remote filters needing some heat to thaw out on cold days. I do have another setup like this to get rid of, I bought enough parts to make 2 kits when I did mine. I am also working on a very cool Walbro 392setup with regulator that allows either the stock in-tank pump or Walbro to be used with the flick of a switch.

The winter use is the same reason mine is between the stock canister and the CP3 as well.

Yes I am reading after the 2um and before the CP3.

I see 9ish at idle, 7. 5-8 cruise, drop to 5-5. 5 WOT on SJR SW1, and 4. 5-5 on SJR SW3.

Do you still have the extra bracket kit?
