My New 2014' did not come with the "plug in" extension cord for the block heater. I went to my local Cummins dealer and purchased it for roughly $18.00. It seemed simple enough to install myself. I looked at some videos regarding this install on YouTube.

But, when I looked at my 14' where the oil filter is, there is little or no room for access to get to the block heater plug.

On earlier models you could spin off the oil filter from below the engine and the block heater plug was easy to get to. The 14's now have a "skid plate" mounted directly below the oil filter.

I did notice the passenger side wheel well has a" cut out" showing the oil filter. Is this the new access point for the 14's oil filters? Also, it necessary to remove the oil filter to gain access to the block heater plug?

The more I learn about this new engine, the less I know.

Thanks for all your help.....

if you remove the air duct from you can get to it no problem. You may have to get a step stool, but if you lean over you can reach it. I purchased the kit with covered plug end that fits on the bumper from Geno's, works great!

Reno Dave,

Welcome to the TDR forum!

For details on changing the oil filter, do a search here on the forum, or check out page 90 of TDR magazine #84.

It's been discussed, debated, and whined about to death here on the forum.

My 2011 did not have the cord, but my 2013 does. Both have snow plow prep, cold weather package, and block heater on the sticker. Not sure what the deal is, but glad to have it.

OEM Block Heater Cord. I wanted to get one from NAPA, but no NAPA's nearby stocked any for my truck. This OEM cord has all of the necessary fasteners to secure the cord from damage; to my knowledge, others do not.

Installing the block heater cord requires dismantling the air cleaner box....

....including the ductwork to turbo.

Another not so good shot with my finger touching it for reference.
