O. K. I was getting ready to drill the manifold the other day, got cod feet, and decided to run the wires first. The question : where is the best place to get the wires from the engine compartment to the inside of the cab. Using the steering column mount.

I used the hole that the hood release cable goes through ..... grommet is plenty flexible enough to do it with no mods

Mine has an unused big rubber plug right where the clutch pedal hits the firewall. I've run many wires through it.

There is a plastic box like conduit running across the top of the back part of engine compartment. If you look closley the top has little barbed catches, undo these and open the top of the box. Then under the steering column is a big rubber gromet, I just taped my wires to a piece of coat hanger and poked it through(like a needle and thread) to the engine compartment. Ran the wires up and laid them in the box/conduit. There is an opening in the bottom right above the manafold, drop your pyrometer wires out there and snap the lid back into place. I drilled the manifold right below where the wireas dropped down. Pretty slick.

when drilling manifold this is what i did. i began to drill for a while with out grease and once i started getting close to breaking through which is about 1/4" i started the motor with duct tape over the tail pipe and greased the drill bit put on your safety glasses and the little chunks of metal were flying back at me. . a good thing, did the same when i was tapping the hole. the diprocol used a 21 32nd drill bit with the 1/8 tap. i drilled and tapped a piece of sprinkler pipe before attemting to drill the truck and guess what i had a drill bit that was to big in the second attempt into the test pipe it was perfect. left about 3 threads out on the tap and this whould have centerd the prob in the perfect spot. i was nervous but it worked perfectly.

run a test drill and tap first this advice will save one of you who reads this.

Thanks for all the advice. I will try to get at it this weekend. This forum is absolutely this best source of information out there. I have certainly learned alot about this cummins that I never would have known. Great people with great advice. Thanks again, John

I just flipped on the exaust brake. Metal fileings blew out at a very high rate of speed. Worked great.

hey guys doing this dont forget the safety glasses b/c the metal chunks come out fast and hard. get a peice of metal shaving in your eye and there is a good chance you can lose it. safety first always

A quick word of advise.

On almost all NPT taps, you should end up 5-7 threads from the shank, or where the threads stop. This may not be the case with some imports or cheaper brand of tap.

It is always better to be shallow and have to re-tap a little deeper than it is to have the threads too deep from the git go. Teflon tape won't help on the exhaust manifold, you'll either have to use a Heli-Coil or buy a probe with a larger fitting. Either way it is more drilling and tapping.

i really, really like my dipro. very impressive nice match except at night CTD gauges dont show the white and dipros do colors match really nice. at night these gauges shine like flashlights at the person sitting waiting next to you beckoning them for a race. (they shine so bright b/c the white lights up which i like) if they get to bright i got them hooked up to the dimmer switch) dipros are the way to go :D  :) :p  Oo.

GENOS GARAGE. unbeatable customer service. only problem i ordered chrome bezels and they dont make them in dipro's anymore but they did not bother to tell me they just sent the black bezels to me. if they do sell chrome bezels i will be ticked and want new gauges!! do they make the new dipro pyro and boost white faced with chorme bezel?
