I saw an add from ATI about a thermal insulation kit for our trucks.

They advocate insulating the exhaust housing on the Turbo and the Exhaust Manifold. Seems to me that a lot of heat is vented off those components to the air passing through the engine compartment. On a long steep hot and heavy haul, that turbo might get to hot if all the heat was being sent down the pipe as opposed to being able to radiate some of it.

What would this do for the warranty of these parts?

Seems if there was so much to be gained by insulating, Cummins or Dodge would turn 'em out from the factory that way.

Anybody have any experience with these kits?

Thanks,

Brett.

I'm not sure I understand the advantages of insulating them though. I can see the manifold insulation might create more drive pressure on the turbo, but I would guess the effect woud be minimal.

Quieter, AND more performance?

The manufacturer claims his $1,400. 00 kit will get a 10DB drop in cab noise on an '03, AND get better performance due to increased scavenging in the exhaust.

The kit has a hood blanket, wraps the turbo exhaust housing, the exhaust manifold, and the intake manifold.

Anyone out there have experience with insulating the turbo or exhaust manifold? Seems it might allow them to get too hot.

And I'll bet Dodge would just LOVE to see those hot parts all wrapped up in alumanized fiberglass... .....

It would also buy a box and a really nice Walkman

Wouldn't one of those magnetic thingys you put on the fuel line do the same thing for a whole lot less?

You can get a Tornado thingy for less than 10% of that price!:D As seen on TV (this weekend). Worth 20 HP!
