Airbox Replacement?

More pic of my overhaul

From what I've seen, the CFM+ was the best, according to the dyno. However, I can't say I even noticed a difference when on the truck. Definitely not a seat of the pants feeling. If somebody swapped it for the stock intake and didn't tell me, I probably wouldn't notice until I lifted the hood to check the oil!

The intakes make a difference in the lower rpm

A 3rd gen with common mods can see a 50 lbft improvemt below 2 krpm (Afe) 17 on a bone stock 06

The best performance per dollar is the GDP, at least from what I have found. It preformed nearly identical to the CFM+, but is a fair amount cheaper and has had zero failures (thou the CFM failures are few and far between).

I did the GDP and what I noticed was quicker throttle response, reduced low boost smoke, I reached 30 psi of boost at lower rpms, and lower intake air temps. Nothing huge, but the gains were there to be noticed. It's not a major performance upgrade, but just another step in improving the efficiency of the motor.

ditto ^^^!

I also use the GDP.
It is a very simple, robust design with a high quality powder coat finish and a very good price. To top it off, Richard at GDP provides only topnotch customer service.

2nd gens don't really need an aftermarket horn, they are pretty hi-flow from the factory. . back when things were built for performance not assembly line time.

My brother has a 305 hp 03 and averages about 50,000 miles a year. His only mod at the time was a Smarty jr and he said mileage is up 1/2-1 mpg since install of an ATS intake horn. Also noticed better low end response. He always pulls a small trailer for work and his GVCW hovers around 13,500 lbs.

I think I would try something different aince the ATS horns don't seem to have a perfect fit (slightly kinked).

As I've said before, I noticed no difference with the aftermarket air horn. Now I'm wondering... maybe it's because I have an automatic transmission. Accelerating or pulling a trailer makes my trans shoot right past the rpm zone where people are saying they notice the most improvement.

If that's the case, I may have to take back my previous statements.

When I did my research on intake horns, I think I remember that there was more gain at low rpm and little or no gain at high rpm. If that's the case, then I would have no problem recommending air horns for manual transmissions.

04,3500 auto. 4:10 axle. I pull a 14000 LB 5th wheel. A 10 fuel tank test has shown 11. 4 mpg, always pulling average. I ordered a GDP air horn. Will do another 10 tank test to see if it help's. So far I have installed an Airaid intake,Edge milage master. Aero muffler.
