I've been hearing about a silencer ring in the intake, where is it and how do I remove it? I've only had my truck a little while and really haven't gotten too nosey inside. Does it make the truck stronger, or just louder? (loud is good, see sig. )

silencer ring

jv... ... ... take the air hose from the airbox to the turbo off. look into the turbo throat, and yu'll see a "large washer"--silencer ring held in by a large internal snap ring. takes a couple of screwdrivers to get the snap ring out. then just remove the ring. the throat of the turbo is aluminum, so be careful to get the aluminum "crumbs" out.

prob no difference in performance. other members have posted results on the dyno that pretty much proved no improvement in performance. get more turbo noise, but it's a high pitched whine that some folks don't like. i like it.

since you still have the stock air box, remove the snorkel from the box to the fender well. i then took the bottomn of the air box and drilled several 1 1/2 holes in the bottomn part. later changed to the BHAF, which i like better. (Fleetguard AH19037; NAPA 2790)

silencer

thank you REDNECK DR. ! I'll be doing that tomorrow. you said that it makes a high pitched whine? Is that the normal turbo whistle, just louder,or is it a different sound?

noise

i think it is the same whistle or whine we're talking about. just hear it better. with my straight thru muffler and 4" turbo to tail exhaust, get a lot of turbo noise out the pipe, too. :D

exhaust turbo noise

i ran the stock exhaust a short time, and couldn't hear the turbo at the tail pipe much, if any. with the 4"turbo to tail through a straight thru truck muffler, i can hear the turbo a lot at idle. rev it up in the shop and quite pronounced. drive between a couple of buildings and romp on it--hear the turbo. i like it!
