My wife, daughters and I took the fifth wheel out to Yuma from So Cal this weekend. On the way back climbing the grade out of the desert, below sea level, to 4100 feet, 6% grade on the way to San Diego the intercooler boot at the turbo slipped off. Last week before the trip, I had loosened and checked all of the hoses and tightened the clamps. Also I did a valve adjustment, it drove like a new truck since it was spooling up faster.

So on the way up the hill, I wasn't pushing it hard, we were doing 55mph, 4th gear, boost was a continuous 20 to 30 psi. It will max at 40 but I don't do that since the egt and the coolant temp gets too high.

I loosened, adjusted the hose and retightened the hose. All is well right now since we are home and I have parked the trailer. I have 212000 miles, should I replace the hoses, if so with what or is there a certain way to adjust and tighten the hoses?

Thanks

Craig

Mr Bobs hoses are the best hoses you can buy

Hand made in the USA. stongest hoses made period. They come

With very high quality ss clamps

Cosmo,

My clamps are the factory originals.

Bob 4x4,

Do you have contact info for Mr. Bob's, I'm not familiar with that name.

Thanks

Craig

I don't think the reinforcing cord is the same strength and the # of plys may not be the same. At a dyno event a few years back one of the big dogs(over 100 lbs boost) blew a bs hose, replaced it with Mr Bobs and went on to post huge #s. I've been running them at 50 psi plus for many years now with no issues

You definitely get what you pay for, if you go cheap, this is what you end up with. I blew this pulling my toybox up the west side of McDonald Pass, scared the heck out of me when it went.

Thanks, definitely good info. I'm not trying to be cheap, just don't have extra to spend. Here on TDR, we see the value, at home, my wife will see $250 for blue hoses when the old hoses were black... but she will understand that it's a 17 year old truck and things need replacing periodically.

If you want sticker shock the Oem replacement boost hoses and clamps are about the same as Mr Bobs complete kit with ALL the coolant hoses too

I lost a factory clamp while climbing the grapevine at some pretty good boost,I thought my wife was going to jump out the window :-laf

Thumbs up for Mr. Bob's!

I bought a complete set of Mr. Bob's coolant system hoses. A couple years later one of them developed a pinhole leak. Mr. Bob sent me a replacement right away, no hassles.

I then ordered a set of boost hoses and clamps. All are performing well. His products are top quality and he stands behind them. Oo.

It sounds to me that you just didn't tighten the clamps securely. I'm still running the original hoses and clamps. The only difference is my max boost is 32.

That could be a possibility, I'm fairly certain that they were tight but you never know. Given the fact that the truck is 17 years and has 212,000 miles I'm going to replace them before I pull the trailer on another trip. Around town to and from work it's not been an issue since I don't get much boost while driving seven miles to work.
