But what about the 5 pin flat with the reverse light pin so a trailer with brakes knows to unlock the brakes because you're backing up? So many more trailers have gone to 5 pin flats, but the 7 to whatever adapter companies have been slow to figure this out. I had to make one myself. I think they are a little more widely available now. But still a very cool feature, I saw that while wiring in the White Knight reverse lights.

Since U. S. Rams don't have Daytime Running Headlights as an option, you can simulate it though the fog-lights. Just turn the headlight switch to the parking lamp position, then pull it out to turn on the foglights! With the lower positioned fog-lamps you are more courteous to drivers in low cars... and you also get taillights!

I figure if a cop were ever to complain, I'd just explain that I was trying to be safer with them on. (CA does not allow the use of parking lights while driving) What's he going to say?

About daytime running lights! I don't know about a RAM but Caravans etc DO have that feature. ITS TURN OFF for U. S. autos. If you go into the PCM?ECM and convert the language from English to Spanish etc the daytime running lights are activated!!!That feature is there and because its manitory for Mexico to have daytime running lights. Use to turn this on for customers on late model Caravans. I bet its there for RAMS also.

Would be nice to have the DRL option but since it dont (to our knowledge) I did the parking/fog lites on whenever the eng is running (good for ins disc 2). Used the diode (frm y2k) on the alternator and then driving a relay to put a ground out to the ground pins on the relays (I think its #85 pin on both -but ck it to be sure).

Also using the hot to the relay to control a relay for the charge line. Now the line is hot only with the eng running. Cant draw the trucks batts down if left hooked up to the trailer (or the bed out has a cooler on it).

Also, when you stop the truck and turn it off, if the driver opens his door before any of the passengers attempt to, it will unlock the subsequent doors. Pretty Cool!

Is yours a Laramie? I've been trying since Day One to get mine to do this. Can't find anything in the Owner's Manual, and it's been driving me nuts!

No, mine is a loaded up SLT. It is an automatic, I wonder if it might have something to do with it? If I put it in park, shut things down, turn the key off, THEN grab my door handle, I hear the rest unlock. It seem that if the daughter or wife grab for theirs first, I have to unlock with the switch. The 15 mph auto locks are enabled on mine also. I also habitually use the parking brake.

If your truck is off, and you are listening to the radio on the accessory key position, you can get rid of the chiming while the drivers door is open by pulling on the key while it is still in the accessory position (like trying to pull the key out of the ignition with out turning it to off). This also turns off the display on the radio - although it is still working. Turns it into a stealth radio.

OK, I just went out and did it again.

I must have a defective ignition switch.

I can turn off the chime in the accessory position and one click toward start position by pulling the key toward the drivers door. In the accessory position it also turns off the display on the radio. The first time I did this I thought my radio had gone bad - would have been time for radio number three.

I did notice that you might have to lift up on the key a little bit as you pull it out but it certainly does not take a lot of force.

About it being in Canada thats correct. Change the language to French. All it takes is a DRB scan tool. I bet the Rams to have daytime running lights. Ask a tech to look and see. I had a customer insist he saw Caravans with daytime running lights, called STAR(Tech Assistance) and was told the scoop on it. Turned on lots of them two years ago on Caravans bet new Rams are the same way.

Yea they all have it, but you have to turn the little switch on the left of your panel on first.

I HATE DRL - they are glarry and very distracting in the daytime. Makes it hard to judge an approaching vehicle's speed and distance. Makes the owner look like an idiot for leaving their lights on all day too. I wish they would outlaw them.

I agree with you Blakers. If I want lights on in the daytime, there is always the switch on the dash.

I'm with you. Don't care for the daytime running lamps. It was the one thing motorcycles had going for them.

Also hate maneuvering into a campsite at night while the headlights blind the people in the camper across the way.

I dont like them eaither but for the folks who do I think they can be programed on. They are daytime lights and are dim like the rest of the autos that have them.

Dang it. That's exactly what it is. Having the transmission in Park must be criteria it looks for. Kind of hard to do with the manual. Guess they could have tied it into the parking brake...

Has anyone noticed that they all ahve the same dashboard, manuals or automatics? I was driving home the other day and the sun was really glaring in through the back window. It was lighting up all the P, R, N indicator lights. Not a complaint, just a "hmmmm".

I have noticed this, I also saw I think on the far right is what looks like a upshift arrow. But no matter how high I take the RPM it does not light up. Must be for the gassers.

The upshift light only operates with the 3. 7L V6 and 4. 7L V8 1500s with 5-speed manuals, since those trucks are fuel-economy rated by the EPA. Since the HDs are not rated, you will never see the upshift light come on, not even with the Hemi.

BHaner

If you turn the key on and off three times and back to on- then push the door lock switch to lock- you should hear a chime. It will mean that you have disabled the auto-lock feature.

Blakers and others...thanks for calling me an idiot

Thanks for that comment. I'm the idiot because I have DTRL's.

I could turn this around for you with the statistics in Canada and other countries that have DTRL's and how accidents are reduced substantially and so are fatalities.

Also, one click of the e-brake does not engage the brake but it does turn off the DTRL. Any idiot would know that.

Several of the GM's and many european vehicles have DTRL standard as well as motorcycles. Lots of idiots out there.

Its a law in most countries now and since they run on a lower voltage its less for a glare. The sun gives much more glare then these lights.

Thats just my opinion. Kinda like a few I read here.

Scotty, the idiot
