Intermittent EGT guage

My father-in-law has been having problems with his EGT guage. It is the older style Banks Dynafact. It will read fine (or what he considers normal) and then suddenly will read 300*- while excellerating- yeah I know... . NOT. Then it will rise up to 400* or 500* whil under load. It's like it is 400* or more off, but not all the time. All the connections appear tight, nothing is loose or obvious. And it still reads changes, just not the right temp! Any ideas????

I would say that the probe is bad. Maybe someone else will have some more input on this, but that's my guess.

My SPA probe did that. One of the leads going into the probe was broke.
