Good morning everyone.

I need a little help diagnosing a new problem with my 2007 5.9L.

Approximately a month ago, I got a P2509 code after my truck had been sitting for a few weeks. I cleared the code and it didn't reappear.

Beginning yesterday, I noticed an odd instrument cluster behavior on initial start. I have included 2 videos. The first it the way that the instrument cluster always worked. The second one shows the tach, voltmeter, and fuel gauge going back to zero at the start and then waking up a moment later.

Now this morning, I had the odd cluster behavior, the truck stalled after initial start, and now I have a P2509 code again.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start looking for this issue?

Batteries test fine and the battery terminals themselves are corrosion free. I'm going to have to start going one by one through connections to see what I can find.

Might be like someone had with his lift pump running continuosly. Disconnect the batteries and let it sit preferably over night. His ECM on his 99 had a hiccup and needed a reboot. I know the PCM's have supposedly gone away and everything is ECM's now but while the batteries are disconnected it may be a good idea to disconnect ECM plugs, di-electric grease and reconnect.

I had a similar issue with my 07 C&C, I don’t know your code, but mine was low voltage to the ECM. I eliminated everything but grid heater. I would charge mine overnight and she started without incident. Let it sit overnight and be cold enough, the voltage would be low with grid heaters on and would die. Just as I started to get to the bottom of the issue, I traded it in. Try charging batts overnight and try to start. If your ambient is warm enough try to start without charging to see what happens. My voltmeter would tell me if grid heaters were on. My batteries were less than a year old, so I ignored bad battery issue.

Justin, do you have a load tester? I find the “toaster” from harbor freight works fine for the value. Perhaps you can load through that crossover cable. If it passes enough current to toast bread, I’d call it good. If not, you’ll release that factory smoke they pre install in those cables ;)
