Well I'm positive it is not my engine. Every time I put my truck in gear it idles way down, and then I take my foot off the break, and it idles back up and takes off by itself (no throttle). It does this just to maybe 5MPH or a "rolling start" and then all is normal again.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like partial torque converter lock-up. Don't know what would cause it though. Some trannys (BMW etc) need fluid pressure to keep the TC disengaged & if pressure drops, they will do this. Not sure about the 48RE...

I'd say thats quit normal. ??? Truck idles at 8-900 rpm no resistance. Drop it in gear with brake on , truck trys to move , cant move with brake on , so engine lugs down a hair. TC clutch not partially engaged. Motors turning TC at idle, put it in gear and it trys to move truck. Let off brake, no throttle, truck moves away, eliminating resistance, engine goes back to normal idle speed. Thats about as normal a reaction as you can get!!

That's what

is supposed to happen. That is one reason for the parking brake on automatics. pull it in gear and release the parking brake truck should move anything above 5 mph there is a problem.

Believe me it's NOT normal, and it especially does NOT sound normal when putting transmission in Reverse. The truck makes an awful sound- kind of a WHAH WHAH WHAH noise on the motor (this is reverse only) The symptoms seem worse in Reverse.

-When I'm home in a couple of wks. I'll try to do a video post to better explain my concerns.

Blake I remember you posting about another weird idle RPM thing your truck was doing a few months ago. Did that problem eventually go away or ?

Are you headed back up here to the Tri-Cities? Drop me a PM if you're up this way.

UPDATE:

Well it was in fact the TQ. Conv. I took it to a "transmission shop" and they figured it out.

Of course though, my ATS installer (Diesel Performance Unlimited)) is unwilling to help (NOT A BIG SURPRISE THERE). My ATS TC still has it's warranty, BUT my installer (DPU) wants to charge me a lot of $$$ and take forever to do it, and was pretty rude about it on the phone.

So that's a NO GO! I'd just be better off letting Astley's (the trans. shop) do the install, and forget about it.
