Good Morning all - I hope you can help - -

Truck is a 2002 w/automatic trans 76k miles

Upon starting truck in the AM, I have very poor throttle response when in drive. If I shift back to neutral its OK, then when it warms up there is no problem and it accelerates normally. The secont pert of the problem is when crusing an low speed, 40-50 mph, at 1100-1200 RPM, and go to pick up speed there is no throttle response or down shift until I completely let up on the throttle and then re-accelerate and it works normally. I thought at first it was the transmission, but now think it might be the Throttle Position Sensor.

Any one have a clue?

ALSO - - - - - Are there any shops/dealers in this part of the world worth a flip - - - The nearest Cummins place is in Youngstown, about an hour from here.

Thanks all, Denny

i'm sure you've checked for codes? Something like a tps would most likley set a code if it was the electrical part of it failing. Sending stray voltages that the ecm would not agree with. But anything's possible.

Do you have good fuel, clean inj?

Can you hear the motor pull down at all when you step on it the first time or is it acting totally like your not getting on it?

Is the transmission in lockup when you try and go?

TPS now APPS!!!!

It acted like ther was no throttle, then I would take off like nothing was wrong, and would run fine all day. Just had Cummins in Hubbard, OH install new lift pump and all is well.

Thanks for the tip,

Denny

APPS Electronics engineer

Does anyone have the Electrical specs for the Apps

I have measured 7 new Apps and they all measure into the meg ohms. Contact resistance should be <125 ohms. What codes could come up. I would like technical info on what this will do either to or for the ECM with extemely high resistance (APPS)

Thank You 2-ND TIME:confused:

There was a thread a while back that showed the insides of the APPS. The reason you are seeing high resistance is because there are some op-amps between the resistive element and the output leads.

Apparently the APPS no longer presents a true resistive "load" anymore. It will either be sourcing current or presenting a variable voltage to the ECM.

Good doucmentation would go a long way to resolving why thing component is so failure prone.

No Codes

No codes came up on the APPS problem, however a code

(P 0216) injector pump timing - came up on the lift pump failure new lift pump solved the problem. Even with the auxillary lift pump installed down by the tank it only lasted 77,000 miles

Thanks for all the suggestions,

Denny

same problem!!!

#@$%! I fought with this same problem... . Everyone said it was probably the filter, so I changed it..... NOT... then, Cummins told me it was the lift pump $426 installed... . NOT...

Then I read an article written by another Dodge owner who had the same identicle problem and fixed it by replacing the TPS.

He didn't have any codes and neither do I... . I'm going to replace

the TPS... .

Hope this might help you make up your mind.
