Justin,

I don't disagree with the majority of your post, but you're right, they do continue to work the bugs out. They worked a bunch of 2nd gen bugs out in '03! No steering issues, no lift pump failures, not sweating about the VP44. I hope you continue to have good luck with your truck. My 2001. 5 had a few issues, so far my '03 has none. nada. zip. squat. ... Well, you get the picture ;)

Thanks for all the replys, guys. I am aware of the warranty and am glad I didn't have to foot the bill for the repair. I bet it was over $1000. Anyway, I'm now back on the road. One repair that also was done (under warranty) that I didn't mention was the TPS. Sounds like that's also common and many guys just clean theirs out with contact cleaner. I'm going to get a fuel pressure gauge and maybe change my whole fuel delivery set-up and relocate the pump to the rear near the tank. Hopefully the LP will live longer. I wish there was a better pump out there. Unfortunately, now my PS was groaning a little bit driving to work today. I popped the hood when I got there and no leaks. I'll check the fluid this weekend. Unfortunately the noise only got a little more quiet once warmed up and didn't go away. I asked the dealer about the steering wander and they said I needed a trac bar. Not a big surprise! See ya later...

Wow!

I've been a member since November 2001 when I picked up my new (ordered it) 2002 truck. I have been really impressed with all the info I have picked up from this sight. And I guess I should be very thankful with my truck's performance and reliability so far. I have 55000 miles on it and have had no problems whatsoever, not even a problem getting it started after changing fuel filters (I've heard nightmares about this), which I do every 15000 miles. I don't have any extra guages (probably taking a chance there) or bombs as I can't afford to be my own warranty station yet. I've got a list worked up but waiting to save some extra money first.

My truck was built in Mexico which didn't make me very happy at all. But my salesman told me that was a good thing as it is a newer state of the art plant and they have experienced very few problems with trucks from there. I guess he was right as mine has been great so far. I have had no problems, not even the steering wander problem. I've always been a Dodge man and wouldn't trade my Cummins for anything, except maybe another Cummins.

I hope you get everything squared away with your truck and wind up liking it. I love mine.

I got my 2001. 5 and had no problems not one till 28,500 then the clearance lights leaked, the governor switch in the transmission was not working properly and was replaced. Something else happen all in a few thousand miles. I was starting to wonder with my first Dodge product. I now have 46,000 and it naver had anymore problems. I did put a fuel pressure guage in and it idles at 13+ and goes down the road at 11. Hopefully the worst is over for you. My friend's new Altima just went bang after 30,000 miles and the engines were on national back order for three weeks. Still jap crap to me.
