Why is it all the treads I read about the 06 Cummins all negative. I dont think it dodge's fault that a motor is dusted or someone stacks 14 box's on it and hammer on it every day... Im I wrong?? Is the 06 weaker, or does everone complain about the new model year... Or should I have bought another ford :)

I wonder what you will think if in 8,000 miles your truck ends up in the shop and DC says your engine is dusted, no warranty for you, by the way it will be $8,000 dollars to replace the engine.

You followed the manual to a tee and performed all maintenance per the owners manual, are you really just going to say OK DC here is $8,000 dollars.

What more can the owner do then follow what the manufacture states in the books for maintenance?

Now there is no way a motor could be dusted in 8000 miles, unless there was no filter and running it in the baja 1000... I think someone is getting the shaft...

We had the NV5600 replaced in our 05 at 94,000 miles and the reman was replaced at 95,500 miles.

I would like to get a new one as my 04. 5 has 243k on it, but the problems are making me a bit nervous as is DC's failure to stand behind their product.

Believe it, Trucks around here are dropping like fly's from Dusting, I mostly oilfield trucks that spend a lot of time or gravel roads, the stock air box and filter is ineffective in extremly dusty conditions... . Note: in most cases around here the trucks have more than 30,000 km.

This is how it works:

- 100 million dollars to recall airbox.

- 75 million dollars to fix dusted engine.

- 25 million dollars to dispute in court.

Just some rough numbers, but that is how corporate Dodge see's it.

How about this one in the Detroit paper today: "Dodge Ram sales down 22%"

I have placed silicone over the urethane filter seal when I close the lid. (has to be airtight to the top lid, not the bottom)That way no dust can get by around the corners. It peels apart easily at changing time.

NBazil,

It's not a bad engine. Some of the negativity you here is from the same people. It seems like you only here the negative but you don't here about all of the others that are completely happy with there trucks.

Parks hit it on the spot. Thousands of these truck perform flawlessly everyday. You just never hear about it. It just gets me when you see the SAME people griping everyday about the truck... Apperently it's eating them up inside when you see thread after thread bashing DC or the company's who sell aftermarket parts for them. An easy solution would be to sell it then get a Ford of Chevy... Then we could make fun of them :D Sometimes you have to wonder if it is just the driver?

I would buy an 06 in a heart beat.

The engine itself is virtually the same one as in my 2004. 5

AND I haven't been easy on my 04. 5 :-laf

Here is my feeling on it:

1 - Cummins is an excellent motor.

2 - DC stinks.

3 - DC's warranty stinks.

4 - Their dealers stink (as least the few I visited).

4 - The truck wrapped around the cummins engine stinks.

Would I buy another Dodge when this one goes? Probably... . but only after learning the other 2 (Chevy & Ford) have similar issues so why jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. IMO, Cummins is the best diesel motor available. I don't think the 06 motor is any different then the 04. 5 and 05 other then some ECM programming to get the extra HP/TQ. I am, however, curious what 2007 will bring.

Just look under the hood of a Ford or Duramax and tell me if there is an engine in there. All I saw on a Duramax was hoses and wires.

Let me be one of the first of those 06 owners who is having no problem with their truck and thus far is a happy camper. I have had one visit to my local dealership, which is not where I purchased my truck, and it was a very plesant experience and my truck was taken care of without any issues. They were straightforward with answers to my questions. They hd me in/out in a reasonable amount of time, in fact they were right on time and ready for me when I arrived for my appointment. So far - so Good with the dealer. I am doing all my own maintenance, using all their recommended Fluids, I am exceeding thier warranty requirements for the timing of these things. If I have any warranty issues that they do not satisfy correctly, I will get their reasoning in writing as it is the only acceptable form to document what is taking place from a legal standpoint. I will let you all know if this type of thing happens, but you will be second on my list, as I will engage an attorney first. I paid up front for my truck and it's warranty, and I have the expectation of them to take care of me up front also. Anything less is inexcusable and sueable.

Yes, the 06 is junk. BUT! because I consider all you guys my personal friends, I would be willing to trade my 03 (w\ 50k and worn out tires) straight across for an 06 laramie 4x4. This should help at least one poor 06 owner sleep better at night.

That's just the kind of guy I am.

Scotty

Well I like to say that my truck (so far) has been great... . and I work at a ford dealer and this is my first dodge... im happy :D
