Is there any difference in 81-93 Dodge tailgates?

I was just wondering, I'm looking for a good tailgate and want to see if I can broaden my search. Thanks.

not 100% on this but i belive the only diff from around 87 up is the silver overlay on the '91+ but the gates are the same but like i said i'm not 100 % on that

Trim would be the only difference other then that they all swap over to one another . hope this helps .

Not sure about your question, but if you do find a good first gen tailgate, put some kind of a lock on it. They're hard to find in good shape and someone attempted to steal mine twice. First time they got the supports off and must have got spooked, they left the gate resting on my bumper. The second time I had installed a lock on the inside so they couldn't get it (they tried, but all they managed to do was to bend the locking hasp a little). Before you say that it was probably the same guy both times, I doubt it because I had moved to another town between attempts.

Just put a 90 gate on 92.

If you cant find good factory ones I know that Grote makes new tailights for the first gens and they look pretty nice.
