Cummins Engine Problems

Powerstroke Better For Enviorment

Today I found a 2001 Ram 2500 QC, short bed 4x4,

white paint, agate int. , SLT Plus without the

leather seats, but it does have the trip computer.

The only option it does not have that I could tell

was the sliding rear window. It is a Cummins ETC

with 5 speed, 3. 55 limited slip, and has the HD

transfer case, camper group, trailer towing, fog

lights, air dam, heated mirrors (not the towing

mirrors).

They seem to be willing to sell it for dealer cost

and I *think* an additional $2,000 "rebate". I am

not sure of the interest rate, but Dodge has some

incentives with rates around 3. 9 to 5. 9 long term.

(My 3500 interest rate was 8. 25% for 5 years).

This truck has 1,400 miles on it. I did not get an

explanation as to why but it is still clean and

the plastic is still on the carpet. How much will

the 1,400 miles work in my favor for bargaining

on the price? The salesman was willing to knock

off 25 cents per mile, or about $325. Heck 1400

miles is a lot of miles. . or alot of test drives!

I think they said it was a "dealer trade".

I also test drove a 2001 2500 2wd, QC, long bed

with the ETH (HO) Cummins and 6 speed. I really

did not notice a difference in performance. They

both have 3. 55 gears. The ETH had 14 miles on it,

so I did not want to thrash it to see how strong

it was. I do not like the way the 6 speed shifts.

Good thing is, I still have the Power Edge 3 light

box from my 3500 I just sold a few weeks ago :(

so I could put that in the 2500 ETC and be back

in business with a set of Autometer gauges on the

pillar! :)

-Thanks for any comments!

I would say that if they threw in the $2000 rebate that it would not be that bad of a deal. I got my truck, an 01, in June of 2000 and gave dealer invoice +$500. Usually if you go into the dealer with your homework they will be upfront with you. You can get dealer costs on several websites, one of which is www.kbb.com . You can 'build' your truck and it gives dealer cost and MSRP.

As for the 1400 miles, I know that GM has what is called a PEP-performance evaluation plan. Kinda like a demo car. I would be alittle leary of this because usually the salesmen beat the daylights out of these car/trucks. I would say, if there is another dealer close that has a CTD, ask them if they will match the other's price. Even if they sell at cost they are still getting a 3%(I think) holdback from DC. Just a thought.

I would shoot for:

Invoice Price

- Rebate/Rebates

-$1400. 00 for the 1400 miles

1400 is quite a few miles. Ask them what they would give you for the truck if you had to sell it/trade it to them with 1400 miles on it.

You can order a truck at most dealers for Invoice +/- a couple of hundred and you get the rebate(s).

I think you can have the rebate OR the financing at this point.

The six speed shifts great once you get used to it, took me around 2K to figure it out although I still have an ocassional bad shift :(.

Instead of the $325 for the 1400 miles, tell them to throw in an exhaust brake... now that would be a fair deal!

Actually the 1400 miles isn't going to matter because your warranty starts where the dealer mileage leaves off. In other words your 36,000 warranty is now 37,400,and your 100,000 engine warranty is now 101,400 miles. To be technical,a dealer can drive a vehicle up to 7500 miles and still sell it as a "new" vehicle.

It all depends how much you want and like this truck.
