Fellow CTD owners,

I understand that the TDR site is a place to discuss different problems and issues that some may be having with their truck. However, am I the only one that that owns a CTD truck that has had no problems at all?

48k miles and no bad injectors, no failed lift pump, no failed water pump, no diesel in my oil, no failed U joints etc… and I’m getting 17. 5 MPG. I’m sorry for those that have had problems but I wanted to find out if I bought the only truck that isn’t a lemon. Sometimes I feel like I should be waiting for something to fail rather than enjoying this great American Heavy Duty Truck.

If you have been trouble free and are pleased with your rig please comment. Lets start a positive thread.

I don't think I have ever owned a vehicle that didn't have some sort of issue whether it was minor or major. This vehicle is no different.

Some of them were a pain in the neck, some were downright infuriating.

That being said, this is probably one of the two best vehicles I have ever owned the other being my 98 12v.

I think if you look at how many different parts in the vehicle and how complex some of the systems are, it is amazing that they run at all.

Kind of like when I saw my brand new baby for the first time. I thought of how many things have to happen absolutely perfectly for the baby to be born at all, never mind be healthy, I was amazed.

No engine probs, a few chassis problems but I am still loving life when I get in and crank it up.

74000 miles so far.

Sorry it doesn't fit the trouble free aspect of the thread, but I am very pleased with the rig.

Best -

Steve

Same here, 90k and no problems I didn't cause myself.

I had 1 CP-3 replaced under warranty for leaking, and, yep it seeps a bit in cold weather still. Not as bad as the original so not even going to temp fate.

There is NOTHING I have replaced and paid for that could not have been let go for a while. I did the u-joints in the rear drive line due to a mild buzz at hiway speeds. Nothin annoying or bad but it was there. Had a dry u-joint on the hanger bearing, problem solved.

I have tweaked on the VB and trans to get it happier with the Smarty, which has been on for 40k, and moderate TQ mangement. Probably a few too many blasts on #9 and I frequently tow 10-12k on #5.

Other than normal maintenance it has been utterly reliable and totally trouble free. :)

6700 miles trouble free on my 08 and lovin it so far best mpg was 19. 5with 410 gears and 6 sp auto can't complain what so ever .

I have owned 2 CTD'S so far. Both have been excellent trucks! The 2004 has been a real trooper, and had been back only for the CP3, which all early 04. 5's had problems with. I wish the front seat were more durable and comfy, but that's it! I am knocking on 56K mi, and I just ramped it for a pre winter inspection. No bad U joints, No bad ball joints, No bad wheel bearings, No leaks etc, etc, etc. My overhead says 17. 8 MPG, and the math is close. The only thing I'm watching is that I had an oil analysis done, and I had 2. 0% fuel in the oil.

Blew one headgasket at 40K, replaced the clutch at approximately 18K, trashed one U-joint at around 70K, but I do not consider that to be that bad given the abuse mine sees LOL

Just short of 50,000 mi and no issues I would consider significant. I had a couple leaking gaskets replaced under warrenty at about 35,000 miles... that's all!:)

30k on my '03 and no problems yet.

Also, keep in mind that people usually don't post here unless they are having problems and seeking help.

I had 54k on mine before it had a problem of any sort. Lift pump died under warranty. Just did the pans and fluids in it last week and darned if the water pump didnt start screaming when I started her up. .

I know mine only has about 11K on the clock but the only problem I’ve had with it is one time when I cranked her up to go to Home Depot. It started up as always and then died two seconds later. I attempted to start her a total of four times with the same results. I gave up and drove my Bettle TDI to Home Depot. Not much fun to drive as our might Cummins but hey I get 50+ MPG on the highway and yes it is a Turbo Diesel. When I returned, I tried again and it started up and stayed running. Never did it since…weird.

I am one happy CTD ower and will be happier when I make my last payment. :-laf

We have 7 cummins powered trucks in our farm fleet. From 98 to 2006. Some with mileage over 220,000. We have never replaced any injectors on any of them. Never a lift/and or injection pump. Never an engine related down time on the trucks except for routine service. Thats why I buy Cummins!!! But the truck on the other hand... ... fenders, doors, etc. .

100% free troubles twice over.....!

My first truck 2002 4x4 auto was traded in with 93,000 trouble free miles. The truck that i now have is still the most fun to drive. Just under 90,000

I ordered a 95 CTD, had it for 10 years and never had one problem with it with almost 100K miles. I took delivery of my 05 in Nov 04 and have had no problems so far. Both trucks made an 11K mile round trip to Alaska, hauling or towing an RV without a problem. Both were Mexico built.

My CTD has 114,000 miles on it and has been a joy to own.

The only things that have happened:

1 injector at around 33K miles.

clutch @ about 40K - not bad, but upgraded for the power boxes

driveline u-joints around 40 K too - i used to drive thru water for fun.

complete front end rebuilt - around 70K - from the water - no longer look for it.

water pump at about 85K - did it myself in like 15 min. no big deal

pressure line on PS - factory fitting cracked by vibration - hose itself was just fine

I think that is all - I feel that it is an acceptable amount of repairs. No complaints here.

Mine is at 25K, no real problems other than a couple codes and in for a recall on the ABS. I have been having a chronic but intermittent problem with the NAV, hopefully they will have finally decided to just replace it when I go in for my next appointment on Dec 6th. I tow heavy an it just keeps pulling my loads effortlessly. It is a pleasure to drive. It is really easy to maintain. No complaints.
