Shipping Large Mower

A friend recently purchased a Freightliner (FL60?) with a 5. 9 Cummins and an Allison 6 speed. The ISB motor is rated at 175 on the data tag and he is looking at uprating his power.

Do fueling boxes for the Dodge work on a non Dodge aplication?

If not, what are his choices for more power? How much power will the Allison take without sacrificing reliability?

Thanks for any help.

I dont think the fueling boxes work for the freightliner ECM's (not sure though).

I know one thing that would probably work is bigger injectors and a boost fooler used with a wastegate blocker.

As far as the Allison holding more power. I have driven a FL60 equipped with an Allison, it felt doggish. Another truck I drove with a slightly higher rating of power (same powerplant) felt alot better. In my opinion I dont think they'll hold too much more power than stock.

175 Uprate

Have your buddy check with the local Cummins shop. Some are a simple recal, and by calibrating, may get what power he wants for a simple recal charge.

Do watch for overloading the Allison, though. They "torque match" these pretty close...

Which Allison is it? The 6-speeds can usually take quite a bit of power. I've turned up plenty of B and C-series engines coupled to the 6-speed, and they can take it all day long. The 4 and 5-speed Allisons are substantially weaker.

As for adding power to it, I doubt Cummins will turn it up for you. Emissions are a concern, but thats not the main reason they will not turn it up. The main reason is the 175 engine does not have the right parts in it to make it into a 260 or 275 HP model. Make sense? Pistons, injectors, and some other parts are different.

My advice to you is call up Diesel Dynamics and tell them you want some more jam out of your 175 engine. Injectors and a 'stealth' boost module are going to work great. There's also an adapter you can get so you can put an EZ box on it. :D

Evan:

I noticed the dyno'd horsepower rating of your truck in your signature line.

Did you dyno your 2001 HO/6 prior to modification? I'm curious what the hp and torque readings for a factory stock HO/6 were.

What rear end ratio does your truck have? I'm guessing a truck with 4. 10 gears would produce more torque on the dyno than one with 3. 54 gears. Is that correct?
