I noticed on the Cummins website that the 380 hp ISBe marine engine is available. The literature states it is the same base engine that is in the Dodge Ram, but has a higher flow head on it. Anyone consider trying the new head? I wonder how much it is or if it would even mate up to the Dodge intake/exhaust correctly.

Thanks

I looked it up and its interesting... It would be cool to throw the head and turbo on it :)... wonder if its possible... The dimensions are the same as our engine

question is how much $$$$$$$$$$$$$ would it cost to do?

Quoting the text from the above link:

"With its roots going back to the proven 6BTA5. 9, the

QSB5. 9 is providing a Quantum Leap in the marine

industry by incorporating the latest diesel engine

technology. A high pressure common rail fuel system

virtually eliminates start up white smoke and black

smoke, improves fuel economy and significantly reduces

noise. The base engine uses the same components as

found in the 2004 Dodge Ram Pick-up Truck powered by

the Cummins Turbo Diesel. The engine includes a new

cylinder head with four valves per cylinder, which allows

the engine to breathe easier for increased acceleration

and torque. "

I don't think they are saying that the marine engine has a higher flowing head then our trucks. Instead they are saying the head flows better than the 12 valve 6BTA5. 9.

Carl,

You beat me too it...

If I remember correctly the "Cannon Ball" truck had about the same HP upgrade with just a Cummins ECM program.

I would imagine that with the correct factory timing and fuel map they had it under control. I sure wish they would offer a HP upgrade thru Cummins via a flash. I don't care about warrenty as I am my own warrenty station already...

On a marine engine of any kind. The engine's coolant (jacket or raw water) flow through water jackets in the exhaust manifold to keep it cool.
